Apparently he took a character reference from John Terry about the lad from Chelsea. Now that’s what I call due diligence.

I agree . Martin takes a lot of stick on here when people believe he's got something wrong . I suppose that's fair enough but when he gets things right he should also get all the praise . Since he returned to the club when he only had two or three weeks to assemble a squad he's got a load more right than wrong . Well done Martin and thank you .

Totally agree.

We should always remember that Martin was the one charged with getting the on the pitch side sorted when Nigel & Co took over. He did a remarkable job with so little time avaliable and stabled the ship. After that first season our trajectory has been pretty much one way since.

None of us really know how much ML has had to do with this transfer window compared to January's though do we?

We can certainly give him some credit for what he did 5 years ago, but I would expect anyone with his amount of experience at this level to be able to pull together a team of sorts in those circumstances. It isn't straightforward, but it's not rocket science.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again, why does Ling need praise for doing his job?
A job he's handsomely paid, I might add

Because since he's come in, when we were circling the drain and had about 3 players heading into the NL, he helped to stabilise us, and now we're challenging at the top of league 2 with an extremely capable squad and manager.

Is that all down to Ling? Of course not.

Has he got things wrong along the way, sure, he's only human.

But he's got a hell of a lot right too, and gets endless stick on here from some of our more...short-sighted supporters.

Fair play to him, I think he's been a great servant of the club, as player, manager and DOF.

Probably because he chose the players he wanted.

How many millions of the investors money, how many failed managers that he’s had to pay off, how many ridiculously bad signings have we made during his 5 years at the helm?

Hopefully he’s now being pulled away from day to day duties and sticking to stuff like the USA camps and meeting and greeting rich foreign ‘fans’ out for a jolly.

It was exactly like the Beshetti years but only with less money and flair.

Ling’s done well overall and I agree with his assessment that this year’s assembled squad is the best yet. We seem this summer to have added genuine quality over quantity and so far it’s playing out in our results.

The major blot on his copy book has been his two most recent January windows. Both appalling, particularly the most recent.
