Attendances this season
It looks to me that the club are calculating our home attendances on a ‘tickets sold ‘ basis, rather that actual ‘fans in attendance ‘
It looked no more than 5,000 there today, but it was announced as over 6,300.
Is there some benefit or advantage for the club to report our crowds in this way ??

Re: Attendances this season
Maybe Mark's thinking is by showing higher numbers, it will attract more companies to advertise at the ground. Might even be that by having a higher number, might entice more people to come as they'll be intrigued as to why more people are watching the O's.

Re: Attendances this season
This is a nonsense though, if you’re announcing the ‘attendance’ that means the number who are actually present. It can’t possibly mean the total number of tickets sold. What would happen if there was a massive strike, or at the Bank holiday or midweek evening games where many can’t make it - do we still assert the ground is mostly full when it clearly isn’t. If you’re going to do this then at least call it ‘tickets sold’ not ‘attendance’, or just not announce it at all.
Surely otherwise you are misrepresenting to advertisers exactly how many people saw the ads. I know this won’t matter to most people but I’d prefer the Os played with a straight bat - if you're going to start being a bit underhanded about this, where does it all end?

Re: Attendances this season
The club must be slightly disappointed with the attendances this season but I would imagine the threat of covid is probably keeping a lot of people away . Those fans might not even come back as people find other things to do on a Saturday .

Re: Attendances this season
Yesterday’s train strike didn’t help.
It must have kept a few hundred away, plus August is traditionally holiday time.
We drove to the ground yesterday and couldn’t believe how empty the roads were in Walthamstow and Leyton.

Re: Attendances this season
And yet the attendance announced for the visiting fans was woefully short for the numbers in the ground.

Re: Attendances this season
Arsenal have done this for years. We used to only announce those present but it seems to have changed this season

Yeah - but why? It's fundamentally dishonest if you change the basis of the calculation but present the results in exactly the same way as before without explanation.aylesburyos wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 11:34 am Arsenal have done this for years. Re: Attendances this season
Maybe it's a directive from the PL/EFL then.
Would not surprise as with all that is wrong in Football, can imagine that something like attendances were higher in the agenda.

Yes, I agree, maybe a question for Mark Devlin at the next Q and A.o-no wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 12:21 pmYeah - but why? Re: Attendances this season
Agreed- attendance is who goes to the game. May as well just put it as 'tickets sold'.o-no wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 12:21 pmYeah - but why? Re: Attendances this season
I would be surprised if even 100 people are still concerned about COVID. Attendance is low every August. It’s too hot , many are on holiday , cricket is still being played , trains are a problem.

So you know attendences work by seats sold , then why ask a question ?o-no wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 5:24 pmYou get there's a difference between asking questions and moaning, right?B.whitehouse+10more wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 4:08 pm Got nothing to moan about so let’s start to make things up![]()

Re: Attendances this season
So if we sold 5,000 tickets but due to a transport strike only 3,000 people actually attended the match, the attendance would be 5,000 ??tuffers#1 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 6:03 pmSo you know attendences work by seats sold , then why ask a question ?o-no wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 5:24 pmYou get there's a difference between asking questions and moaning, right?B.whitehouse+10more wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 4:08 pm Got nothing to moan about so let’s start to make things up![]()

Oh, you don't.
I believe that the attendance figure should refer to people attending the fixture and not those who bought a ticket but stayed at home.
Just my opinion of course, but I think many people would have the same idea
