Who Would You Like To Succeed Paxman?
He is quitting University Challenge. A hard Act to follow. Personally I think Clive Myrie has the necessary charisma.

Myrie has been good on Mastermind, but putting him on UC would be too much exposure (remember how sick everyone got of Carol Vorderman when she was suddenly on every show going?).

The show needs someone serious, who will clamp down on the increasing displays of fun and jubilance. Punching the air on a successful run of answers is never acceptable - contestants should be content with a calm and short sip of water at the very most.

David Mitchell would be the right type of person for it I would hope.
Probably give it to someone like Farage. He doesn't get enough BBC exposure.

I reckon Mitchell is too prone to whimsy and comedic turns. No, this is serious business. It needs someone who has a naturally dour demeanour and will act as a barrier to any foolish attempts to rejuvenate, energise or make the show 'relevant'!MassiveForehead wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 2:43 pm David Mitchell would be the right type of person for it I would hope.

The time to start panicking is if we hear phrases from the BBC such as "Person X will bring the show into the 21st century".

Could see them go for one of their pop science boffins like Brian Cox. Can't replicate Paxman's disdain and the BBC will want a big name who's seen by the public as a brainbox.

Whilst this debate over potential replacements is quite fun, if you look at the trends and recent decisions then it's quite clearly going to be Alex Scott

Why not Clare Balding, she's on everything else, or so it seems but I'm sure she has a spare 30 mins in her week?
NOT Paddy McGuiness please.
Seriously, I'd go for - Hugh Edwards, boyo.

Yes Huw Edwards has the necessary gravitas. What about June Sarpong is a local girl who could do a job

Miriam Margolyes would be brilliant.
Does anyone still watch the bloody programme though. Not the same since Bamby left.
