Re: Oldest Football league club
You’ve got to feel sorry for the supporters and employees of these clubs. The prem is awash with cash, players earning silly money. Yet at the grass roots of professional football we see some people struggling to earn a living.
Sadly many lower league clubs are unlikely to ever be financially self sufficient businesses and rely on the good will of rich people to keep them going. Ownership becomes a lottery. Hope they survive.

Are we at a point where there needs to be a proper legal investigations and people sent down for this. Mind you I'm a believer that most of the money in football especially the Premier League is ok as long as you don't turn it over.

Re: Oldest Football league club
Smaller clubs are between a rock and a hard place. If rich “backers” withdrew their subsidies many clubs, maybe even ours, would cease to exist in their current form. Small clubs are indebted to these people for their very existence
So owners do deserve some respect for keeping alive our current lower league system out of their own pockets. Generally a thankless task. But of course there Is always likely to be rogue owners who don’t have the finances to support the club, or don’t want to, and create the sort of difficulties we see today.
Ultimately action against owners invariably impacts on the clubs themselves and the people who have done nothing wrong. What I would like to see is more of the cash swilling around in the premiership pass down the leagues to help clubs become less reliant on owners cash.

That attitude got us really far in 2014-17 didn't it.

Re: Oldest Football league club
According to Hearn his money stopped us from folding. Same can be said of Teague. Without backers we wouldn’t exist like many other small clubs. Carful not to sling out the baby with the bath water. Not as easy to sort as you think. Try thinking about it.Red_Army wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2019 11:24 amYeah, don't rock the boat, or someone might fall out.dOh Nut wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2019 10:16 am Smaller clubs are between a rock and a hard place. I've thought about it and I've decided that a deferential attitude towards owners is a bad thing.dOh Nut wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 10:04 amAccording to Hearn his money stopped us from folding. Re: Oldest Football league club
Isn't that communism for football clubs?
What about clubs not spending more than they have coming in? There is no reason why Premiershit clubs should be expected to bail out financially imprudent lower league clubs.

Re: Oldest Football league club
Think about the reasons that clubs need to outspend. Wage inflation led by the explosion at the top of football has meant clubs who don't pay a transfer fee for years still massively overspend.
If smaller clubs lived within their means, as you suggest, they would fall through the leagues. It is totally understandable that clubs wouldn't do this for obvious reasons.

Nonsense on so many levels.
There is no reason any club/ business should pay more than it can afford. If for example I want to move to a bigger house, should I get a hand out from a rich owner of a house in Knightsbridge? No, of course not, I should cut my cloth accordingly and buy the property I can afford
As for your comments about falling through the leagues...well all clubs get the same handouts, so it doesn't improve the position viz a viz rival clubs, it just contributes to wage inflation. Also if a club can't afford to be at the level they are at, then they should fall to a level they can afford to survive at.
Nothing in your post is any reason at all why richer more successful businesses should bail out less successful businesses who want to over spend.
The sooner football clubs ( in general and not aimed at any specific club) learn financial prudence, then the better the game will be for everyone

Re: Oldest Football league club
I think that richer people should support people who want to buy property they may not be able to afford. That's why there is support for first time buyers, which comes indirectly from government taxation. It's also why mortgages exist. Anyway, drawing a link between household finances and a football club is a nonequivalence.SalfordO wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 11:21 amRed_Army wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 11:09 amThink about the reasons that clubs need to outspend. In any case, it is clubs at the very top who often outspend more than any lowe league club like ours.

Re: Oldest Football league club
Great then, can you send me a few thousand pounds please as I would like to have what I can't afford
What complete tosh about mortgagers....they are a commercial transaction. Lenders only do so to make a financial gain, not out of altruistic reasons
That's why there is support for first time buyers, which comes indirectly from government taxation. It's also why mortgages exist.
Its a perfect equivalence as in both situations if you spend motre than you have as income, you get into debt. Finance is simple. Don't spend what you haven't got/can't afford....we may all want to eat steak or caviar but if your budget only extends to aldi everyday essentials fish fingers, then that is all you can hove
Anyway, drawing a link between household finances and a football club is a nonequivalence.
Not sure of the relevance of the last line. The point I made was about why should the richer clubs bail out the financially inept? Are you suggesting the lower league clubs are bailing out the clubs at the top?
In any case, it is clubs at the very top who often outspend more than any lowe league club like ours.
clubs at the top it is to be expected will outspend the lower league clubs because they have earned more income

I'm not rich, so I won't be giving you anything. I'd be more than happy for the money I pay in tax to go to you if you needed it, though.SalfordO wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 11:54 amGreat then, can you send me a few thousand pounds please as I would like to have what I can't affordWhat complete tosh about mortgagers....they are a commercial transaction. It's so simplistic to say you should never spend more than you earn. Have you never heard of speculate to accumulate? How are you ever supposed to grow if you never leave the confines of a particular set of parameters?
