Auntie Beeb Strikes Again
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-62397375
So after a gruelling afternoon at Bristol Rovers etc and see Orient come way with 3, or 1 or nil points, you switch on 5Live at 5.30 for the full classified and what do you get? The Beeb just don't get Football!!!

Another institution being torn down - and for no other good reason than generating more internet traffic I guess.

Re: Auntie Beeb Strikes Again
After moving to London in 1986, for many years the BBC radio football results were a godsend but I haven't listened to them for years now. Can get the results on my phone before they're announced on radio. The times move on.
Also worth making the point that if you want to see services like this a good step forward would be to vote for a government that is committed to a properly funded public broadcasting service.

Re: Auntie Beeb Strikes Again
will miss this
loved the introduction music before the results were read out
Probably guessed the score because of the voice tone
Times move on, my mate sits in front of me and gives me updates every 5 minute on his phone
Gone with the vidiprinter, ceefax and teletext
Times move on but I will still miss it !

I would remind people, that quite a few travel on their own in their cars. Looking for scores on your phone, could mean you could take out 3 people, as the lorry driver did. New technology is not always good technology

More people are likely to use public transport so they can booze safely with no hint of DD

Re: Auntie Beeb Strikes Again
Only heard them very occasionally but it's things like this (also the shipping forecast) that make the BBC unique. We might all know how to get the results of any match anywhere on our phones but there are plenty of older people still listen to the wireless. I can't see how getting rid of this is going to save more than tuppence anyway. Save our scores!

If it affects the olds, expect the low mark wannabe leaders to pronounce about it later

Can’t keep on using the olds as an excuse to keep things going. No one likes change but we soon forget it ever existed. Too many people quote age as a reason for struggling with innovation. I find that stupid young people often travel through life remaining stupid until they become stupid old people. Simple really

Re: Auntie Beeb Strikes Again
I'm sure we all know some old people who struggle with innovation, it's very easy to assume that they find it as easy to pick up as younger people do, but that isn't the reality and it doesn't mean they're stupid.George M wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 12:06 pm Can’t keep on using the olds as an excuse to keep things going. It's not even that people don't like change, this 'change' isn't an improvement - it's being removed altogether and replaced with nothing.
Fair enough if you don't like it and never listen, but there are others that do.

Re: Auntie Beeb Strikes Again
I wonder how much it costs to broadcast the scores. It was OK to pay lots and lots of ex-famous sportspersons to "comment" at the Commonwealth Games, but keeping an institution going, that's not way for today's Beeb management

Re: Auntie Beeb Strikes Again
We had Lenny Henry doing some punditry on the Commonwealth Games. He couldn't have been too expensive, as he's been recycling the same jokes for 45 years.EliotNes wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 2:50 pm I wonder how much it costs to broadcast the scores.
