The Chinese will not attempt anything at the moment, they just need to wait. The US mid terms are coming up, with the Republicans expected to take control of both houses. Already Josh Hawley is voting against Sweden & Finland joining NATO. With the likely prospect of an extreme right wing Republican president around the corner, American foreign policy will soon be following a non interventionist tact, as they withdraw from the world stage and implode domestically. The biggest threat of a nuclear war starting will soon be from the government of a tinder box USA.

It's just for show. For now.

However, China has the same problem that Russia has. It's population is ageing at such a rate that by the end of the decade the number of civilians of prime military age will have halved. So if they are to launch an invasion, which they now know will be very risky, the window of opportunity for when it is even remotely feasible is rapidly diminishing.

I doubt Chinese military chiefs are confident of the likelihood that an amphibious invasion will be a success, but the CCP is concerned about the surplus males in the population. It may even prefer to see them slaughtered trying to cross the Taiwan Strait than risk a domestic uprising.
