Ling on holding midfielder signing

Post by waigO »

From the pre season final video, interview with Ling in the week just gone.

‘Would hope to have in before Saturday but certainly before the end of the window on 31st August’.

May be wrong but my reading of this is we’re waiting on the final decision of the preferred player and if he isn’t in by today, he’s going elsewhere and we pursue others.

If it is indeed Jack Turner and at only 19 he must have fantastic potential if he is given arguably the most important position in the team.

That was before he/we went and signed a full back. I got a funny feeling Shad might be the holding midfielder.

Very much doubt that. After publicly identifying it as a key position for improvement, Richie choosing to use a defender that’s never played a league game in that position seems unlikely. Expect we’ll have someone in shortly and fingers crossed they’ll be an improvement on what we’ve already got.

Pretty mental we haven’t got one for the first game of the season. Only the last 6 months to identify someone and get them in.

Quite right. Perhaps the good ones don't want to join us.

As per the post game interview, we are waiting on the parent club sorting a replacement before this player can come to us.

But I said last season, Ogie can do midfield with his eyes closed.

I agree. He’s good on the ball. Can head, tackle, decent pace. I am not sure he will get it, but he could do the job. He needs to find a place for him, we are a better side with him in it.

Didn't you assure us James wasn't going to play there against Grimsby

No chance imo. I agree he has those attributes, but as Richie said. Putting a defender there is never the same. He mentioned bosh position and knowing where to be for 2nd balls. I remember us putting Baudry there a few times and despite him having all the attributes, he looked awful.
