They want Truss, so she'll get an easy ride even though she's thick as mince.
As an aside, I am surprised in this digital age, that the right wing press still seems to have a lot of power.

I suspect that's because on broadcast news programmes, they still have "What the papers say" or "News Review" and so we're still subject to the slant on the news from the press barons.

It's extraordinary that the broadcasters seem so willing to gift that power to them, and yet they do.

In the case of this election, the majority of those Tory members who get to vote on the final two will be subscribers to The Telegraph or Mail. In a General Election, although other papers like The Sun, Express and Mirror come into play, their influence is not as great as it was. Social media is where its at now, but for this leadership election it won't play as much a part.

It just beggars belief that newspapers - with their miniscule distribution - are still allowed to hold such sway over public opinion.

100% that Liz Truss had paper round. She can't stop banging on about delivering stuff, but never says exactly what.

Then we’d NEVER see her in her / my constituency.

The world would pee itself laughing.

Second debate on ITV was a better format

Mourdant - Continutity bullshitter candidate

Sunak - Slick and smarmy but probably most qualified

Truss- As wooden as a plank and about as inspiring

Badenonch - Banter candidate, will get a cabinet role

Tugendhat - Seems like a nice guy, who'll finish last

Truss is actually gonna win it isn't she. Badenoch supporters surely fall behind her, and then wins against a candidate members loath. Tory party goes into full Hari Kari mode.

Even that random Chishti fella would've been a better bet

Still way to early to say, Mourdant has gone from odds on to over 7/1 in 5 days after being found out multiple times

Truss/Sunak are basically the same odds, probably because Sunak is a polished performer and Truss is anything but inspiring.

Don't underestimate the Truss is a remainer/former Lib Dem angle either

It’s going be be between Truss and Sunak. Mordant is totally unproven and Truss is bizarrely popular. However, when it comes to the membership it’ll be Truss because the real blue rinse brigade won’t be able to bring themselves to vote for a brown man. Thus we’ll end up with a PM who will make Johnson look like a towering beacon of competence. It’ll almost be funny for a while and then the reality will hit home, the tories will implode and it’ll be a GE within a year.

Mourdant was the one that spooked the Labour leadership most. Truss becoming pm would be a real watershed moment in the country's decline into fantasy, absurdity and irrelevance. Can't quite bring myself to believe the Tory membership will be bonkers enough to actually do it, but the fact it's even a possibility.

C&c quids in anyway.

Me too, took 5/1. I only bet on outcomes I want to happen and watching her being her for the next few weeks should provide some more gold. If she wins, Stramer couldn't f*** that chance up, could he?

Cashed out at just over £60, reckon Truss will have a poor campaign and be found out like Mourdant.

Sunak has the CLP behind him and I'm sure they've got some dirt to leak

I suspect it’ll be Sunak now. The next GE seems like Labour’s to lose now

Somehow Tories still odds on to get most seats

Guess the starting point for Labour being at an 85 year low may be a factor

Bloody hell, didn’t realise how much of a lead Truss has among the members though. I don’t know what the next couple of years will hold.

Truss will have the right wing papers behind her, and Sunak will have to contend with smears and lies, just like Penny did.
Not sure I can see the Tory faithful electing a brown skinned man either.
Truss is so terrible, I can even see Starmer making mincemeat of her in 2 years time

Not that this is ever a great conversation starter here, but considering that Truss, who is exceptional only for her mediocrity (at best) is likely to become prime minister within 18 months of publicly committing to scrap reform of the gender recognition act, and that Penny Mordant’s campaign faltered once it was shown that she was a weather vane on the subject, it might actually finally be worth some people actually working out what they think on the issue, because it isn’t going away. Truss is thick as mince but there’s a live political issue where she can currently make Labour look like fantasists. I wonder if Labour will stop telling people not to talk about it and work out a coherent position? I wouldn’t bet money on it, when Dawn Butler has publicly said “babies are born without a sex” and Stella Creasy says “I’m one of those women who believe women can have a penis”

Sir Beer will find some form of words that basically says Trans deserve respect, I agree with the status quo and single sex spaces will be protected from self ID
