and what if a fan died from the cold in a freezing day in January, or fell down the stairs in the West Stand ?Long slender neck wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 10:19 pmHow would you feel if an attending fan died due to the heat?kokomO wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 10:13 pmNo ones being forced, it’s called freedom of choice. Really that the best you can come up with. We’ll never know because it’s been closed down tomorrow night. I’m going to say something now that might shock you, people die all the time, it’s called life.Long slender neck wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 10:19 pmHow would you feel if an attending fan died due to the heat?kokomO wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 10:13 pmNo ones being forced, it’s called freedom of choice. Let me ask you now them as you’re into sensationalistic statements/questions, how would you feel if someone died at home in the heat tmw who otherwise would’ve been outside in the shade, in the evening, at the football...??

Re: Tomorrow's friendly
Probably some arcane EFL rules that would decide it.
Tbh I think all clubs would be better off delaying their games until Wednesday, for the sake of a day for a pre-season friendly is it worth taking the risk playing in these conditions.

Get a grip it's a 40 degree day not the inner rings of hell. I ran a hundred mile race in 40 degrees a few years back, you just adjust for the weather. I agree with those saying you should take personal responsibility rather than having the choice taken out of your hands.

Aren't all the stadiums there fitted with a/c to make them playable?Long slender neck wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 9:40 pmPretty sure the extreme heat was one of the major complaints about awarding it to Qatar.PutneyO wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 7:37 pm "With highs of 40C expected, the decision was made following advice from the Met Office for people to only travel if absolutely necessary, and after consultation with our Safety Advisory Group"
I'm sure temperatures will exceed 40C in the next World Cup, so will those games be played behind closed doors?
This nanny state bollocks is just too much

As mentioned earlier, I don’t do friendlies much (unless they’re local or if I’m in town) But then that’s my choice.

That'd be awful. Wouldn't the pitch be frozen and the game called off though? I also believe heat is a greater threat to life than the cold.PutneyO wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 10:24 pmand what if a fan died from the cold in a freezing day in January, or fell down the stairs in the West Stand ?Long slender neck wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 10:19 pmHow would you feel if an attending fan died due to the heat?

Re: Tomorrow's friendly
If anyone believes this is genuinely because of the weather, they're just being daft.
It's because only 400 people showed up on Saturday, abd the club are having to give away free streaming because of the balls up with that stream. They know there will only be 200 or so turning up so it's not financially viable to open up.

Absolutely right. They wouldn't have acted this way if a crowd of 5000 plus was expected with a friendly v ArsenalGary the Plumber wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 10:45 pm If anyone believes this is genuinely because of the weather, they're just being daft.

Nonsence. The Police were worried that 500 to 700 Pompey fans would be stranded if the Trains were cancelled. As it's so dangerous for anyone to go out we should just have another lockdown, at least all the snowflakes (and the pompous Lifelongfan) will be happy.

Re: Tomorrow's friendly
Hottest day on record in the UK, there's a big world out there where people live in much hotter conditions. I appreciate they are conditioned to it and some have a/c and things like that, but this is just a football match in the eveningLong slender neck wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 10:36 pmIts going to be the hottest day on record. Exactly that. It's just a football match, a meaningless pre-season friendly at that. Why take the risk of having people attend?

Football is very different to cricketkokomO wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 9:10 pm Can’t see where this silliness is going to end. It’s in the evening. If people want to go let them make that choice. As mentioned somewhere earlier , this sets a line in the sand, what happens if we get another hot burst when the season started.
We’re quickly becoming a country frightened of its own shadow and I can’t see where this is going to end.
Btw the I’m currently watching England women’s cricket match that’s been played since 2 o’clock this afternoon and get this............... there’s even a crowd there watching it.
