What an odd question; I absolutely, 100% would have *loved* Johnson to stagger on as long as possible, ideally to the point where he was “leading” the Tories into the next election, but if not, then with as little time as possible for the party to regroup. Absolutely. It’s pretty nuts that so many of you aren’t realising that the reason he’s going is simply “because enough people with sway in the party recognise that he needs to go if they’re to have any chance of success”. You’re celebrating the laying of foundations for the Tory party’s next GE win. Knock yourself out if that’s something you want to celebrate, I guess.
Why be SO SO defeatist? I do not think the electorate will forget Johnson's legacy in a hurry. Why do you assume Labour are so doomed to lose the next election that their only chance of winning is Boris staying in power?? If so, there is not hope of an alternative vision. At all.

I think part of the problem is that so far, Labour and in particular SKS have provided little in the way of any alternative vision.
Surely, any future Tory Prime MInister can not be AS odious as Boris!

The Tories, with their new leader in place will win the next election.
Voters don't like Starmer. He has no charisma, and more importantly no alternate policies. He has set up Labour to be just like the Tories to entice Tory voters, but it won't work, and the day after he loses the next election he'll resign
The scarey thing is, there's no one else imo, who would make a decent leader, with the possible exception of Andy Burnham

How can any of Boris’ cabinet be considered trustworthy or to have any integrity?

They supported him through all the lies and incompetence, on many, many occasions. Then some resigned because his premiership was completely untenable. I doubt there’s an honest man/woman amongst them.

His ego always comes first. He will pester Zelenski daily ....

A couple of days on, and Johnson seems to act as though nothing untoward has happened to him. He is acting as though those mass resignations were just a blip and nuisance and now is assigning cabinet posts to all and sundry. Not having resigned in protest against him seems to be the only qualification. Such massive cabinet is not needed for the next 2 months, especially as the HoC will shortly be on holiday again but it gives him a new fan club, sense of power and useful idiots for photo opportunities for him posing as PM.

2 main reasons for him to hang on: he can't ever accept that he has failed in his job and he hasn't really got anywhere else to live.
Thirdly: I wouldn't be surprised if he is also looking for ways to feel that he has outsmarted his detractors. That seems to be the key theme underpinning all his actions in all aspects of his life.

Can't believe that Tories think the public will quickly forget about him and his tax dodging missus.

If all the voting is completed this week (Thursday) why will the outcome of the Leadership Contest not be known until September?

I think they need all the members to vote on the final two, after the judges houses round.

Good speech by Kemi Badenoch today. What’s not to like, a far right black person. The BBC and Guardian would internally combust. It would be delicious viewing. She gets my vote.

Quite a few Tories are not happy about that, or his Green card status, either.

She's certainly playing to a certain gallery on the Tory right, but I doubt her sincerity. I too take some delight at the wailing from the identarian left. But she's not a serious contender for the role of PM yet. At some point in this contest she'll no doubt trade in her support for a cabinet position.
