Re: Train Strike & Econonic Growth 4 news
Ah yes, unions demanding pay increases because inflation is running higher than their pay rises. Emmmm ?
On BBC Breakfast yesterday, a union leader was saying they want guaranteed job security … when rail usage is down and companies are running emergency timetables. Emmmm?
I enjoy being back in the 1970s!

I would like to remind all the anti lefties, that they haven't had a wage rise for three years.

Since Covid, more people are working from home, and not commuting. This is good for the masses with less time wasted commuting and less fossil fuels used. However as a consequence we are now running less trains, train companies have less income, and we need fewer drivers. Your solution is to make no train drivers redundant and to pay them more money. Meanwhile we have a shortage of lorry drivers.ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 5:17 pm I would like to remind all the anti lefties, that they haven't had a wage rise for three years.

They'll be redundant as a profession within a generation when driverless trains become the norm

Today Scotchrail reached an agreement with their drivers on pay and soon the 700 a day missing trains should reappear. Huzzah.

Is that the generation that is going to be enjoying endless leisure time and comfortable lives? Or is it the one after?Currywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 6:55 pm They'll be redundant as a profession within a generation when driverless trains become the norm

Electric trains are carbon neutral whereas lorries are not, perhaps those fat cats could take a massive pay cut. Your solution is to put all drivers and other railway workers on the dole!!! That will be a good burden for the tax payerChelmsford Swimmer wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 5:51 pmSince Covid, more people are working from home, and not commuting. I work on a platform at busy main-line station. I earn about £30,000 a year. Which includes most Bank Holidays
and rostered Sundays. Resigned to losing my job this/next year as well as many of my colleagues in Ticket Offices.
The issue is not always about money.

Depends if you're going by the definition of generation used by the SNP or everyone else.Max B Gold wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 6:58 pmIs that the generation that is going to be enjoying endless leisure time and comfortable lives? Unfortunately train companies tend to think customer service is all about running trains on time. Its not. Sorry to hear of your plight.henry wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 7:07 pm I work on a platform at busy main-line station. I earn about £30,000 a year. Which includes most Bank Holidays
