Sad to say, when one announces to many a stranger that one is an Os supporter, invariably one hears “Barry Hearn!”

BH is a master of self promotion. I have always been told self promotion is no recommendation. I think that this is a truism. See for example Donald Trump ( the same ilk ). Anyone else got any examples? I think you will find they are all gits. Oh yes! Jimmy Saville another example.

My only issue here is to ask what else did people expect? As far as I'm concerned Barry Hearn did OK by Orient (plenty other clubs who'd have been glad to have him instead of the chancers they did get) but if you expected BH to do anything other than put his own financial interests first then you simply weren't paying attention.

He sold us to a madman and stole the ground, even weaselling his way out of the 50% profit share promise by some crafty accounting.

Also gave us the chance to watch legends like Peter Shilton and Ray Wilkins play, introduced the red carpet walk ons and even brought back Taxi as our walk on music. So when it’s Hearn, he’s a b*stard. When it’s the new owners protecting their wealth, it’s all ok?

Re: b*stard
Yes but difference is the new owners knew they were buying something without many tangible assets, just a name, Hearn cleared away all the development potential and is still there as the main man. Everything will have to go by him as Freeholder. Hearn was good for the club by keeping finances in the black but exhausted all avenues with it after he feathered his nest and moved on.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 12:50 pm So when it’s Hearn, he’s a b*stard. You seem to be a very angry individual. What I ACTUALLY said was 'AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED BARRY HEARN DID OK', the key here being the first 6 words of my statement. That clearly implies this is my OPINION and, further, that others may have an entirely different view. That's fine by me if they do. I see no need to get into a shouting match about it. Perhaps a similarly mature approach from you would make you a more amenable individual.Gary the Plumber wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 12:30 pmHow on earth did he do ok by us? Remember too that Hearn’s longtime CEO Matt Porter still retains an important role with in the club. The Hearn legacy lingers on!Anthem of Hope wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 2:08 pm The saga of Hearn is a painful reminder of a person acting in a devious latent manner for their own benefit.
We all know the history
They talk about projected building costs exceeding the original budget but I am a qualified quantity surveyor and some years ago on the old board this subject was exhausted - all I say now is it appears the cost planning was not done correctly in a robust way re the steel / the concrete / other construction elements / and the excavated material which from memory was carted away in a non programme manner to save a change in the taxation associated costs.
I was not part of the team for design / cost plans / tendering process - but from what I read on the old forum it seems it was grossly flawed the process and the way Hearn reported it to others was dismal putting it in a polite description,

Kept Orient afloat for years with his own money, got promotions and almost to the Championship. He may have taken out of the club but these owners are doing the same thing.Gary the Plumber wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 10:08 pmThe new owners have nothing left to take from us.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 12:50 pm So when it’s Hearn, he’s a b*stard. These owners had a 6 year plan of getting into League Onr and are no where near promotion.
