Macclesfield Town

Post by Thor »

Have been handed a winding up petition this week and the players have released a statement aiming to have not been paid for 2 months and that they are seeling legal action.

They have continued to sign players which seems bizarre based on the fact the the existing players have not been paid.

Another club in trouble.

Makes me feel grateful for having Nigel and Kent at the helm of `our club` ;)
They have brought stability over that Italian Loonatic.

Bad to be in trouble before season starts. Suspect they will be 24th, which should just leave one relegation spot.

Bit bizarre that the players want to sign for them, unless this has come out after they have concluded previous signings.

Yeah I don’t get it either however, the players statement specifically mentioned that’s what’s happening. Bizarre is not the word, straight away you could have two camps, old players not getting paid and new players who are?

Heard at the end of the season they got promoted that they had no money. Massive shock for me they didn’t go down last season.

Annoying that I’ve just bought train tickets for the away game. Still, heard maccs very nice for a Saturday stroll.

Sol Campbell did a great job keeping them up, doesn't get enough credit for that given the circumstances. Be surprised if he stays on for the new season though, sounds like fighting a losing battle.

The chat on Town messageboards is that SC had a squad of 33 players at one time, so may in part be responsible for the financial crisis they find themselves in now. That said, the loon in charge there had a meeting with their supporters trust, and when asked how they would attract/pay new players, he said this....

Whilst we have signed around 4 new players and have other players already on contract, the contracts being offered are changing. It was explained that players would have financial rewards based on efforts put in at training Mon - Fri and match days. It is hoped that this would encourage players to ‘fight’ for first team places on match days.

....whatever that means. It's going to be interesting

Sol signed 11 players in the winter window and let go 4 making a net influx of 7 players. Could be argued that they helped keep them in the league with more cash from tv in L2 than against what’s on offer in the NL.

It’s true that they had a squad of 36 and now that’s been reduced down to 20

Sounds like a good way to get them to injure each other during the course of the week to keep their counterpart out the squad for matchdays

They are 5 days from their first preseason game and have no keeper on the books of the club. The players have released this statement today.

Following the Order of Judge Barber at the High Court today, the Winding-up Petition will continue against the Club.

The Club now has a final opportunity until the 14th August 2019, to make payment in full to the 6 players who supported the petition. Other players and creditors are at liberty to join the petition.

By 14 August 2019 the amount owed to some players will be 3 months' salary. The Club will also be liable for our costs. If the Club do not pay by that date the Court may wind the Club up. Of course we do not want this to happen but we cannot continue to be lied too [sic] and go without payment for any longer.

Throughout the 2018/19 season we, as players, put our bodies on the line for the Club. Our reward was that we were continually paid late and now not at all.

This has had a grave affect [sic] on us as players, who are earning moderate salaries.

Some players have had to face eviction from their homes (including those with young children), late mortgage payments, unpaid credit card and telephone bills and being unable to even put food on the table and fuel in their cars.

It has deeply affected the players' mental well-being. The statement issued by the Club today showed little regard or sympathy for our plight and that is deeply upsetting. This is compounded by the Club continuing to announce new signings.

Not one player has asked for a single penny more than they are due and we have been extremely patient. We are all very disappointed with the statement released by Club today.

In Court today, the representative of the Club confirmed that the debts owed to the players are not in dispute. However he gave no real explanation as to why we haven't been paid.

In accordance with EFL Rule 53.1, the EFL have placed an embargo upon Macclesfield Town, preventing them from registering any contracts and/or new signings. This should remain in place until all payments to players are honoured.

Finally, we urge the Club to pay us, so that we can continue with our lives and the Club can continue into the new season.

We would like to thank our lawyers, the PFA, the wider football community and most importantly the Macclesfield fans who have been fantastic throughout this entire situation.

Life of a lower league footballer. Hardly glamorous and full of riches. Not surprising players want to grab opportunities if they come along

It's not normal to not be paid.

Nothing said about not being paid is normal. Reading stuff into it that wasn’t said, as per usual.

So why did you write 'life of a lower league footballer' in response to a thread about players not being paid?

It’s to do with the fact that the article suggests some lower league wages aren’t really that great with some players living from one wage packet to the next without much spare. No different from many young families I know, therefore who can blame players from taking opportunities to develop their career if an opportunity comes along. Their loyalties are with their families first and not just their employer or the fans.

So perhaps when our players seize an opportunity who are we to complain. Good luck to any of our players who can grow their careers. It’s often a short one and unless good enough to hit the jackpot, not one that creates riches that last a lifetime.
