Highwood Man wrote: Sun Mar 06, 2022 8:03 am Young just looked totally out of his depth yesterday. The game just completely passed him by. And, frankly Coleman isn't much better. His first touch is awful which is why he gets caught in possession so often and I can't believe how slow he is for a young lad. As far as Reilly is concerned, here we are well into March and he is yet to start a league game for us. He has totalled 67 minutes on the pitch in four substitute appearances. As Chocolate Brownie said, Brown and Moss have disappeared already and Nouble looks exactly what he is - a guy who was surplus to requirements at a team that is every bit as bad as us. Pratley looks like this is a season too far for him. God help any manager who is prepared to take us on.
Reilly was sat just in front of me yesterday and I saw him cross Leyton High Road by Sainsburys before the Bristol Rovers game and he managed that without getting injured, I think.
How must Travis and Teague be thinking when we’re paying this guy a good wage and he hasn’t contributed at all.
I think Moss was on the bench yesterday but Brown hasn’t been seen since a clash of heads in the Colchester game IIRC.
We really are in a right old mess………No Manager worth his salt is gonna want to join us until we are in a secure position.

Huge part of the problem is that our owners, as great as they are, are the other side of the Atlantic and rely on Ling to run things here. If we do manage to survive a massive turnover of players, yet again is on the cards.
I’m just waiting for the club to announce the “Early bird offer “ for Season Tickets.

Yup even this season's signings were on short term contracts and with loans as well there's all these expiring end of the season...

Sargeant
Byrne
James
Sweeney
Mitchell (loan)
Thompson
Ray (loan)
Moss (loan)
Archibald (loan)
Pratley
Reilly
Nouble (loan)
Kyprianou
Young
Sotiriou

Also apparently out of contract but made no impact on the squad

Nkrumah
Papadopoulos

I reckon you might also see some of the KJ signings wanting out

Beckles
Drinan
Smith
Smyth

The scary thing is we may well have already seen the CM replacements already as we're overloaded with players in that area, just none of them any good or experienced enough :~

Or not if last summer is anything to go by. We released 16 and only signed 10, which is what did for us in the end.

False economies springs to mind with the way our squad recruitment goes...

- operating a threadbare squad hoping we'd get lucky with injuries etc to top up with the bare minimum (3 signings as per Travis interview) in January, by which point momentum had already been lost.
- replacing squad spaces that need senior pros with academy players who then get thrown in the deep end and flounder when the going gets tough
- panic buys in January to fill gaps who arent familiar with the system when the inevitable injuries and suspensions occur
- signing players late to save 1 months' wages but then missing out on our targets
- signing injured players hoping their past achievements outweigh the fact they're... injured then being surprised when they break down again and don't contribute

As someone touched on elsewhere the recruitment since getting back in the league has been poor so a wholesale change of approach this summer is going to be needed to avoid falling into the same traps again.

Can't go into another season with the kind of gaps we had this year, no cover RB really was ridiculous.

Nkrumah should at least be on the bench.

What happens if we’re relegated. We’ll lose virtually all of those players anyway if we go down

As far as I’m concerned, the following can go:

Sargeant - not good enough. Will end up in the conference south
Byrne - never seen him play. Will end up below the conference south
Sweeney - if he was good enough he’d have broken into the first team by now. If we really have to them give him a cheap 2 year contract and loan him out to next season.
Mitchell (loan) - won’t miss him.
Thompson - not good enough.
Ray (loan) - absolutely bl*ddy awful
Moss (loan) - not good enough
Pratley - past it
Reilly - played something pathetic like 60 mins of football in 9 months.
Nouble (loan) - most ridiculous signing I’ve ever seen
Kyprianou - had more than enough chances to prove himself. All he has proved is that he’s nowhere near good enough to play at this level. Will end up in the lower half of the conference.
Nkrumah - who?
Papadopoulos - who?

Ones I’d keep:

James - best signing made this season. Oddly, his injury might actually mean we have a better chance of keeping him. If he gets an offer from elsewhere he should snap their arm off.

Archibald (loan) - would like to have him here permanently. Although I doubt we would fork out for him, and although I don’t know anything about Lincoln they must be thinking he could do a job in their squad. Also, I’m not sure he’d want to spend any more time at this madhouse club than he has to

Young - get him out of the first team and loan him out and/or let him develop at a sensible pace with sub appearances.

Sotiriou - no idea why KJ iced him out. Proving that he can score goals and is a fighter on the pitch. Get him signed up please

As for the rest:

Beckles - wouldn’t be upset if he left, although I can’t imagine there are a load of clubs queuing up to sign him.
Drinan - the bloke simply cannot finish his dinner. I am utterly baffled as to how he managed to score 10+ goals earlier on this season. He’s been woeful since then. Anyone who was interested in signing him will almost certainly be put off if their scouts have been keeping an eye since jan.
Smith - similar to Drinan really. Although I think there is more of a chance that someone would still come in for him
Smyth - if a club is stupid enough to take this sicknote off our payroll then more fool them. Decent player but you’ll never get more than 15 games a season out of him. Injury prone players NEVER get less injury prone.

We had our chance to bring in those sort of experienced players during the January transfer window and blew it.
Who blew it? Kenny? Ling? The Board? Or all three?
On the other forum there's a thread where Gallen gave out the names of the original targets. Coleman and Brown don't feature on that list so make of that what you will...
Just trying to ascertain the opinion of the original poster!👍
