Maybe he has a release clause for a low amount in case we didn't get promoted. He signed his deal half-way into the season when his stock was high.

The spell he had in the team co-incided with our best football that year, and on its own was a big factor in us winning the title.
Had Ling been playing for those 20-odd games I think we would have been at least a couple points worse off.

Successful to an extent. I really like Judd and would be sad to see him go, but I just can't see him being a regular two levels above where he played last season.

Few months ago, Myles Judd signed a contract extension till 30.06.21, so with two more years on his contract, why this rush to sell him for such a small transfer fee ? Hard to understand the reason behind this ?

I know what you are saying but why the rush to sell him for such a small fee as when Judd is fit and playing well, he is surely worth far more than this very low transfer fee. Also at the time of his signing an extended contract, the Club would hardly have known that Coventry ( if true ? ) were in the start of July, coming in with this derisory offer ? Lastly, who really knows what is going on behind the scenes and what their motives are ?

Who said we are in a rush to sell him for a small fee?

There is still a conclusion that you've not yet reached - that perhaps this rumour is nonsense or that selling him is a decision based on getting another player in.

Maybe he wouldn't be a regular. But what is he? 19/20?

He's not guaranteed a game here so has nothing to lose.

I wouldn't be against selling him for a reasonable fee, nor do I think it would be a bad move for him. I jut don't believe that he is or can be a success at that level from what I've seen.

this thread is the now classic mix of (1) "I can't believe we would sell our best players, we're doomed, I hate this club and everything it stands for!!1!" and (2) "he's crap anyway, he'll never succeed at that level, never rated him, I hope he rots" etc etc

Yeah, I;d much prefer to give him another year to develop and then see what sort of player we have next season. Would definitely start him over Ling. IF we are selling it's got to be because we've identified another good right back prospect to sign, surely. So I'm a bit meh all round.

I haven't stated it as a fact. The use of "if" and "it's got to be because" clearly indicates that it's an opinion. And you've misquoted me, (deliberately?) leaving out the "surely" at the end of the sentence.

That doesn't mean he wasn't a success - being League 2 apprentice of the year in a relegated team speaks volumes. I seem to remember a certain J.Koroma being relegated as well that season but he didn't win the apprentice of the year award - and, without the string of injuries that befell Judd last season, he went onto be one of our greatest assets last season. He has been very unlucky and given the choice of a fit Ling or a fit Judd the obvious choice for me is Judd.

It would be pointless having the same value set as general release and non promotion release, since the latter no longer applies with us having been promoted. Suspect the £25k thing is just rumour. The fee has to be undisclosed so we won't know for sure.

If we sell Myles Judd, I don't hate it, and I don't love it. I'd also hope that any transfer fee is stacked with add ons.

I like Judd, I don't love him as much as other people do, but I think he's our best right back and I think given his age any team in this division would be happy to have him as a depth option. However, his record with injuries is crap, and I think at wing back if we're going with a five, we have problems. I'd rather see Ling moved, but I'm not sure who would take him really. In my mind, Turley is absolutely a centre back rather than a full back or a wing back. Move Judd on with options for if he does well at Cov and bring in an experienced player capable of contributing the length of the pitch and playing 40+ games and I have zero issues with it. Move him on and have Ling/Turley as our depth, not at all keen.

Finally, this has come from a random Twitter account, it's hardly the most reliable source in the world.

Thanks. Wonder where the speculated £25k fee has come from. Probably just rumour mongering.
