Re: Prince Of Wales Watch
I don’t get it. Isn’t this exactly the sort of thing the honours list is designed for?

Re: Prince Of Wales Watch
The Welsh Wizard David Lloyd George started the controversy:- It was the brazenness of Lloyd George’s “price list for peerages” that caused a scandal. They were arranged through political fixer Maundy Gregory, who sold peerages “ranging from £10,000 (more than £400,000 today) for a knighthood up to £40,000 for a baronetcy”, according to The Guardian.
From 1917 to 1922, more than “120 hereditary peers alone were created”, said The Spectator. So many knighthoods were given out in Cardiff – Lloyd George had grown up in Wales and spoke Welsh as his first language – that “it became known as the ‘city of dreadful knights’”, said the magazine.
The scandal led to the passing of the Honours (Prevention of Abuses) Act in 1925, and Gregory would eventually become the only person to be convicted under the act, continuing to falsely offer honours to the wealthy and connected into the 1930s.

It’s lucky we have that act to prevent the wealthy and connected receiving honours nowadays.

Why hasn't the monarchy been consigned to history years ago?
Why do we accept this corrupt and old fashioned organisation?
Eventually the British people will wake up, and only then will there be necessary changes

Why have we got to watch the Prince of Wales now, isn't watching the Orient bad enough?

Not consigned to history because this country still lives in the past, still believing that 'Britannia rules the waves'.ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 7:18 pm Why hasn't the monarchy been consigned to history years ago?

Priding itself on 'being the mother of democracy' when in reality 'first past the post' election is not democratic.
A national anthem that is entirely about wanting an old woman to live forever!
Her innate superiority over all of us (We are her subjects!) but in parliament she just trots out the lines she is told even when it was part of Johnson's game as he had no majority in parliament! In that moment she became his puppet.
Can't see 'the British people' ever really becoming sufficiently mature to decide that the Royal gravy train is no longer reasonable.
Just look at how Harry & Megan are being vilified and hated by the British media because they refused to be puppets in that game.

Even though he's had the odd silly moment, Charles is a decent Prince. Anyone else would have done far worse. God only knows what a disaster Corbyn would have been had he got to be the Prince of Wales. Luckily for us we dodged that. Eventually he will prove all the haters wrong.

Charlie has been a bit too keen to voice his opinions and ideas over the years for a Constitutional Monarch for my liking. Still, doubt he’ll be getting too long on the throne to badger us about architecture, model towns, organic farming or tree hugging.

Each to their own, but I disagree. And, judging by how many likes my comment above has received, I'm clearly not alone. Good to have institutions and traditions that give us our unique identity. Lefties will always find something to cry about. Even something that unifies so many patriots across our fine nation.Anthem of Hope wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 10:21 amHow can you love a family that have so many privileges that demonstrate the current system is not fair and equitable and convert that to your proudness of a Country?
Read the British history and that families total collective history - including how that impacts on the class structure within a society- and then see if you are proud

Yeah, all these people that you reckon still trot out the old 'Britannia rules the waves', do you actually come into contact with them on a daily basis or are you just assuming that "this country" still genuinely thinks like this?E10EU wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 1:25 amNot consigned to history because this country still lives in the past, still believing that 'Britannia rules the waves'.ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 7:18 pm Why hasn't the monarchy been consigned to history years ago?

The watch is old fashioned, completely out of touch with reality, and has never worked for 73 years
However there as been an immense amount of money, propaganda, to make this watch useful and interesting

Think about it. A leading member of a crime family is bang out of order trying to take a bigger piece of the action. What else are the others to do to protect the family business. Follow the money.
