IPhone or Samsung Galaxy
Buying a new phone for one of my girls
My good wife and I know nothing about technology went to a phone shop yesterday came out with nothing just a headache
Ram gigabyte blah blah blah
All we know is we are going to buy the phone outright and get a sim only deal
Of course we would ask my girls but this is a gift and none of them are good at secrets
Opinions please

Re: IPhone or Samsung Galaxy
I would personally spend less on something else like a OnePlus. I guess it's important if your girl will like it, iPhone is a safe option

Also, and I'm open to other opinions here, I'd avoid paying a premium for a 5G phone. At the moment network coverage is very limited and even if it were great, unless you're always downloading heavy duty stuff like films it's really not necessary. It's faster for sure but how many people really need that speed?

If you want style over substance, either one will do. If you want value for money, plenty of others to choose from at half the price or more. You'll only miss out on features you won't use and camera quality which most wouldn't see any difference.

iPhone 'feels' better quality, and more durable. (have had both)
Got the iphone at the moment. Would feel like a step-down, even in the features were better on the Samsung, to take the Samsung
Just my view, anyway

Re: IPhone or Samsung Galaxy
If you know nothing about phones (or computers) and money is not an issue get an iPhone. Main reason is so many people have them you can always get help. And they are very reliable.
Personally as all I do is use it as a glorified MP3 player, check football results and make some phone calls with it, I have a Moto G7 which costs less than £200.

Don’t have a mobile. What’s the point? So busy bodies including my wife can find me. No thanks.

iPhone ha you are a joker, they are great if you like your phone being made obsolete and apple start the process after one year. Load of crap and I’ll never buy another one.

Moved to iPhone 3 years ago, would never go back to anything else. Still going strong, no battery issues. Easy to use. Great for FaceTime as all my family use IPhones. Convenient.

Re: IPhone or Samsung Galaxy
What do you mean by obsolete? All phone manufacturers bring out new models pretty frequently, Apple are hardly alone in that. Older iPhones continue to work fine though as I know cos I've had my 5s for years and it's still doing what I need it to do. What's the problem?

Re: IPhone or Samsung Galaxy
Not true once you start to upgrade the iOS bang goes your phone, the battery gets slaughtered, it slows down and it never performs like it used to. I had a work phone and a personal one, one was updated the other wasn’t. The one that got updated was crap the one that did t outperformed it. Never again will I buy an iPhone.
I bought a brand new 9s Samsung and I’ve not had any issues with the upgrades, no degradation in the battery life a much better phone no doubt about it.

Re: IPhone or Samsung Galaxy
Not too sure comparing a brand new Samsung 9 with an old iPhone is valid. Seem to remember an issue with old Samsung phones catching fire and not that long ago.Thor wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2019 4:48 pm Not true once you start to upgrade the iOS bang goes your phone, the battery gets slaughtered, it slows down and it never performs like it used to. My iPhone is 3+ years old, still working fine, upgrades up to date, battery lasts very well. And thus far has not exploded.

Re: IPhone or Samsung Galaxy
I would go for a sub £200 phone like the Moto g7 as someone else suggested, the new Nokia's are also good value.
Worth considering that having a high value phone will make your loved one a mugging target.

Currently using an iPhone 5 from circa 2014. Absolutely no issues whatsoever. Talk of them being obsolete is nonsense.

Re: IPhone or Samsung Galaxy
Most iOS issues started after they stopped supporting your phone. You've not had an upgrade for a few years now, I bet not all your apps work any longer, you can't use WhatsApp that's for certain and probably banking apps either.

Support ended for that model two years ago so yes it's obsolete.CreamofSumYungGai wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2019 5:53 pm Currently using an iPhone 5 from circa 2014. Absolutely no issues whatsoever. Talk of them being obsolete is nonsense.
