London Series
Know theirs a few fellow baseball fans on here and a few going to the game today.
After following closely for about 12 years it’s good to see a league game over here and what a start 6-6 in the first inning.
I’m heading to tomorrow’s game. Not convinced people in this country will take to the game but it’s could have a space imo. Can be the simplest game ever and incredibly complex at the same time.

Re: London Series
It was because of a combination of Channel 5 and student days that I really got into it, along with spending 5 months a year in North America in 2000 to 2003. Mets fan here.
Without it being on terrestrial TV thesedays I'm really not sure that it really will catch on massively, coupled with the fact that free to air games will only ever be on at/around midnight.

Yeah I think your last point is the one. It’s not easy to watch and you have to go out of your way to watch itSmendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2019 7:20 pm It was because of a combination of Channel 5 and student days that I really got into it, along with spending 5 months a year in North America in 2000 to 2003. Rays fan. Randomly got an interview about baseball (and Orient) in the Wall Street Journal (may need a subscription.)

Re: London Series
Just took a look and 1 hour 20 mins in it's only the bottom of the second with no outs. Looks like it's going to be a late night. That's another thing UK viewers probably wouldn't take to.
There's another London series next year with the Cubs in town. Wonder if this will become an annual thing.

It’s 8-6 in the top of the 3rd. At this rate it’s gonna be the highest scoring game in mlb history

Re: London Series
Okay, a question (forgive the lack of terminology). If a player is running between the bases, realises he can't make it, so heads back, he can be out if that baseman gets the ball, right? In that case, how is it determined if he is running between, rather than just following through after touching the previous one?

Re: London Series
If they are running from first base, As soon as he runs past the base and and towards the next one he is deemed to have made a turn and therefore can be out if he’s not on the base.Real Al wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2019 7:58 pm Okay, a question (forgive the lack of terminology). Any other base, it doesn’t really matter what moves you make, if you aren’t touching a base when the balls in play, you can be out. In some cases the defensive player has to tag the runner (put his glove on him with the ball in it) , or if they have another runner behind them then just have to step on the base with the ball in his hand.
That make sense?

Does that explain why they slide in? So they don't overshoot?

Re: London Series
I watched it a lot when lived abroad. My team were the Yankees and my favourite player Derek Jeter. I chose them because they won a lot and having drawn life’s miserable straw by being unfortunate enough to be born near Leyton I needed to back a winner. Didn’t half feel good when we won the World Series and bought all the best players from the crappy teams.

Almost 3 hours after the first pitch and it's only the top of the fifth with one out.

And because they sometimes have to tag the player, so if you are sliding on the ground the baseman has to reach further to apply the tag.Smendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2019 8:13 pm Yes, and to try to avoid the tag from the baseman/put the baseman off

Randomly joined a fantasy baseball league as i caught it every so often on channel 5 but didn't know what was happening. The majority of my players were Devil Rays and so it made sense to follow them...didnt know at the time (about 2005) that meant i had a bad team and that the Rays were basically the Orient of MLB.Smendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2019 8:20 pmLoved watching the Diamondbacks stuff you in the 2001 World Series and the Red Sox classic comeback from 0-3 down in the 2004 ALCS.Beradogs wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2019 8:15 pm I watched it a lot when lived abroad. TBF I dont regret it. We've still never won a WS and are always up against it, but i like being the underdog and like things like 'the opener' and how they are always ahead of everyone else.

Re: London Series
Love Baseball after going to the Astrodome in the 80's and 90's. Obviously the Astros are my team . They're a lot better now than when I went too.
Was hoping to go this weekend but the only tickets left were £350+ thought I'd give it a miss.

Re: London Series
I swerved it due to the prices. There were a few in the last few days for 65 and 45 quid so i got some. Might be worth going to the ticket office tomorrow if you are local as i think they had some for sale today. Theres also some at about face value on stubhubLeytonstoneRed07 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2019 9:00 pm Love Baseball after going to the Astrodome in the 80's and 90's. Obviously the Astros are my team . Re: London Series
Saw them at Minute Maid Park back in 2012 against the Mets. Sat a few rows behind home plate for $30. Only was that cheap because it was during their rebuild.LeytonstoneRed07 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2019 9:00 pm Love Baseball after going to the Astrodome in the 80's and 90's. Re: London Series
I've only been to 2 live baseball games in my life.
1st was around 1986 or so in Montreal at the Parc Des Olymiques - vs Toronto Maple leafs. A no-hitter. Got told off for lighting a cigarette in the stadium.
2nd was around 1988 or 89 at Fenway - forget who Red Sox were meant to be playing, cos all we did was watch the rain come down in stair-rods.
Still like the game, surprisingly. Would have liked to go to this series, but the ticket prices (on top of travel to get down there) were a bit crazy.

I learned so much about the players from Yahoo sports fantasy baseball. Had a couple of teams every year from 2000 to 2013 after which I got bored of it.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2019 8:59 pmRandomly joined a fantasy baseball league as i caught it every so often on channel 5 but didn't know what was happening.
