The oddest thing about that story is that the actual reason the judge gives has nothing to do with her gender. Essentially they have said "I haven't banged you up because you've got a serious drink problem which you need to demonstrate you can get under control otherwise you'll be chucked in the slammer".

That alone seems a pretty appalling reason not lock her up. Drink driving is drink driving regardless of whether you have an alcohol addiction or not. The idea that I could commit the same drink driving offense as this alcoholic but I get thrown in jail because I'm not an alcoholic whilst the alcoholic doesn't get jail time is utterly insane.

The judge makes the comment about her being a woman having an impact on the decision but doesn't actually explain how or why.

All in all, very strange.

In this day and age, where everybody has access to a phone to call a cab or use an app like Uber, drink driving is a totally indefensible crime.

I am stunned that a Judge would make such a comment. It is so outrageous and is likely to provoke many complaints .

The actual sentence is almost a side issue to her grossly discriminatory words

Odd. Restores your faith in British Justice. Before reading the report I assumed she had dependent children etc. But no. She may have no penis but the judge makes up for this by being a massive silly sausage.

With the information presented in that article it just looks plain bizarre. I find it almost impossible to believe that a judge would say that out of the blue, there has to be some context missing. It's not unheard of for media to take quotes out of context so I take everything with a pinch of salt. Would be interesting to see the full transcript of what was actually said.

Nope. Also noticeable that the handwringingers are all over this while not usually quite so up in arms at the every day bias against women found in many aspects of the court and legal systems. Funny that.
