I’ve never owned a Ford

I once owned an XR3i and was racing a Range Rover around the A406 back in the early 90’s and in my rear view mirror I could see the front passengers rocking and pissing themselves with laughter. Then I realised my back window had been sucked out the tailgate. I got rid of it straight away and never bought another ford in my life.

Now if you’d ask would I own one now, possibly the RS Focus as that looks like, sounds like a proper motor. They also seem to be holding there money well to boot.

Strange one indeed ? My friend had an XR31 for more than ten years, never any major problems. My mother and also myself owned many different models of Fords, they were all ok apart from the older cars of the 60s and 70s having rust problems, but rust problems happened to most cars of that era.
My favorite car of all the cars I have owned was a 1971 Ford Capri 1600cc. Wonderful car, so reliable, easy to do maintenance jobs on ( unlike modern cars ! ) nice to drive and looked great ! I so wish I still owned it, wife forced a change of car, wanted a smaller hatchback type, part exchanged it for a Mark One Volkswagen Golf, worst car I have ever owned !

Incidentally, I voted to Remain, though do not consider myself a Remoaner. Having said that, I do not see Brexit bringing many tangible benefits to date. How many Civil Servants have been employed to bring us thus far?????

My dad was at Ford’s Dagenham for the last 25 years of his working life, after his self-employed laundry fitting “steam engineer” business went tits up in the mid 70s. 10 rotten years on shifts in the body plant, then 15 years on a cushty 8-4 number in the stores counting inventory.

So we used to get Ford cars on a discount - his mk 3 Tina was the 1st car I used to drive when I’d passed my test. It felt like half the cars on the road round our way were Ford’s back then, all those “Dagenham Dustbins” rusting away before anything seriously mechanical could go wrong.

Common fault with all cars of years ago was rust. One of the worst cars for rust was the first model of the Vauxhall Victor, which was in production from around 1957 to 1960.

Mine was a red one, loved it and felt so sad when I sold it. If I ever have a big win on the lottery, will go out and buy a restored one, sheer nostalgia.
I changed the standard ford carburetor, very thirsty, around 28 miles to the gallon, for a zenith economy carburetor, after the change slightly less acceleration but so much better fuel consumption, went up to around 40 mpg !

I have had a number of Fords and always found them to be reliable and enjoyable. Things have moved on with electric technologies and Fords are a way behind many other manufacturers in this respect and that is hitting their competitiveness and market share. Things are in hand but they need to move more quickly with developments

Lotus Cortina was a cult car even at the time they were making it.
I guess you had the Mark two version, made from 1966–1970, just had a look online and those cars are fetching around £30,000 !!

would have loved to have kept hold of my Escort Mk1 RS2000 - but some little s**t took a shine to it and it disappeared around 1993...Now looking at upwards of £50,000 for a top one so I make do with a 1600E

Back when I was a teenager a guy I knew had the 'orphan' 1.3 Sierra. Was so slow it barely moved, as you can imagine.
This doesn't stop him attaching a huge fin to the rear of it though, in order to apparently imitate the Cosworth.
