The good news is that variants pop up all the time but then sink back down into obscurity. Hopefully this will be one of those. Because the bad news is, if it doesn't, this could be even more transmissible than Delta and evade both vaccine and natural immunity. And the early signs are not good.
Would evade Pfizer and Moderna but not Astra according to scientists. Interesting that data is also now showing Astra as giving the best and longest lasting immunity. Funny old world seeing as nobody wanted it.

Doesn't this stuff always get reported in the most alarmist manner possible? Beta and Mu variants sounded properly doomsday when first covered.Dunners wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 3:54 pm I've now spent most of the afternoon so far reading up on B.1.1.529 instead of boarding or working, FFS.

Not tempting fate like. But better to ration your existential stress for moments where things are imminently about to get f*cked.

Re: Coronavirus
Delivered on the vaccine and led us out of lockdown in a more sensible way than the rest of Europe. They are having to lockdown again , we are far from that

Re: Coronavirus
Well done. Try not to make this pandemic a political points scoring contest. It’s a fact that we delivered with the vaccine . It’s a fact we are in a better state than other European countries that are facing lockdowns.
Try again with your thicko accusations.

Re: Coronavirus
I m assuming this will be the hotel quarantine because they have been added to the red travel list, which they do enforce - right?Currywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 9:31 pmShame it won't be enforcedSmendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 9:00 pm Travellers to the UK from several South African countries will need to quarantine upon arrival.

Just checked and you're right, they've cancelled flights from half a dozen places tooSmendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 9:33 pmI m assuming this will be the hotel quarantine because they have been added to the red travel list, which they do enforce - right?Currywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 9:31 pmShame it won't be enforcedSmendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 9:00 pm Travellers to the UK from several South African countries will need to quarantine upon arrival.

Re: Coronavirus
Everyone who has COVID when they die in the UK is classed as a COVID death. It matters not if it was COVID that killed them. That’s what the official figures will show.
Uk 144k , Italy 133k , France 120k , Germany 100k deaths. All countries have struggled to contain COVID , some much larger than the UK yet with similar populations.
Until this is over , and hopefully it will be soon , any silly party point scoring over total deaths should cease.

Re: Coronavirus
Nah - don't think so. Nothing has changed. History can't be rewritten mate. Boris & chums are culpable for tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths (but at least they've made a lot of their pals very rich in doing so).George wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 9:42 pm Everyone who has COVID when they die in the UK is classed as a COVID death.
