I can’t understand how the footage made available seems to differ so widely from the eye witness accounts. It’s scary how people can appear to get things so wrong.
What a needless loss of life and waste of another, all because of too much male pride.
Following someone on the train you don’t know just to have a verbal argument is just plain stupid. If you are prepared to strike then strike first. If not, why follow.

The white guy was the aggressor throughout. No excuse for carrying and being willing to use a knife though.

I think you need to read the transcripts fella.
That’s exactly my point.
The eyewitness accounts don’t stack up with the video evidence.
Listened to quite a few interesting podcasts about memory and how unreliable it is, especially in stressful situations.
Have only read that article. Whilst theres no excuse for stabbing someone to death, the bloke was idiotic. If he took a breath, swelled his pride and let it go, his son would still have a father today.
What was he thinking? Whatever he'd said, the younger lad had walked away from him. Trap off back at him by all means, but why then follow him down into the next carriage?
But if the fella hadn't needlessly chased him down into the next carriage and got in his face, it wouldn't have happened. It's a lesson for all of us, you never know who you're dealing with, there's some nutters out there.

Seems to be an awful lot of “ victim blaming” going on here! There can be no excuse for stabbing a man to death in such a way.
Exactly. No matter what the character of Pomeroy was, and yes it was stupid of him to prolong the argument, especially in this day and age of knife attacks. But the fact is the other guy savagely plunged a knife into his neck and then followed up with another flurry of slashes. The coward almost certainly knew he was going to lose a fist fight so pulled a knife on his victim. Needs locking up for a long time.

Of course there's no excuse.

''Needs locking up for a long time.''
Does not seem to happen in UK though does it !
In USA, they get far longer jail sentences or even the death penalty.

I've not seen footage of the incident, just the build up but guess the accused is claiming self defence?
Apparently. Not sure you can stab someone that many times and it be self defence though.

The perpetrator will rightly get sent down here. You can't carry a knife and use it to kill someone clearly.
As you have brought USA into it for some reason;
In the U.S., the general rule is that "[a] person is privileged to use such force as reasonably appears necessary to defend him or herself against an apparent threat of unlawful and immediate violence from another." In cases involving non-deadly force, this means that the person must reasonably believe that their use of force was necessary to prevent imminent, unlawful physical harm. When the use of deadly force is involved in a self-defense claim, the person must also reasonably believe that their use of deadly force is immediately necessary to prevent the other's infliction of great bodily harm or death. Most states no longer require a person to retreat before using deadly force. In the minority of jurisdictions which do require retreat, there is no obligation to retreat when it is unsafe to do so or when one is inside one's own home.

Never mind Sid, after Brexit there'll soon be a call for the death penalty to be reinstated.

That'll work. The USA with their longer sentences and death penalty is certainly a deterrent, they don't have anywhere near the amount of murders and violent crime that we have. (Whoops, it's much higher over there)
