No, it’s not like the others. The others have decreed what he suffered wasn’t racism, just banter. They haven’t taken responsibility and apologised for their behaviour.George wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 6:33 pmHe did Ronnie , but like the others , only after he had been caught.Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 6:01 pm He’s also held his hands up for his racism and apologised.

Inevitable I suppose that someone would eventually break cover on this once the anti semitism angle was put out there.
Take some time off from here. Either return better educated on this subject or just stay away.

And here’s Taxio arriving on the scene. You’ve got previous for this sort of stuff and I’ve been undecided whether or not to let you remain for a while.Type high wrote: ↑Fri Nov 19, 2021 12:56 amGun shoot foot, ya couldn't make it up could yaCurrywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 4:30 pm Azeem has been racist himself

Take a moment to help yourself think it through. Rafiq’s admittance doesn’t make a jot of difference to what he has experienced. Please let me know if you need any further help in having it explained to you.
Alternatively, do what you’ve done previously and head off to Mungos and complain about how you’re definitely not a racist over there.

Re: Azeem Rafiq
“The morning after my Sky interview, I took a call from Matthew Hoggard,” said the former England Under-19 captain. “He said, ‘I didn’t realise. I’m really sorry the way some of my comments made you feel. I just wanted to apologise for what I said’. I said, ‘Wow, thank you’. All I ever wanted was an apology
His previous comments show he's pretty pro learning and forgiveness when it comes to racism. It isn't difficult to recognise that being an absolute idiot as a teenager isn't the same as an entire clubs culture being racist to the top.

Re: Azeem Rafiq
There is also a photo of him doing the rounds with another player both wearing a t-shirt that has P*** Power on the front.
Perhaps they were just reclaiming the word like the N word and like Spurs do with the Y word.
Some of what he has spoken about was truly shocking but some of his allegations like the use of Kevin and Jack Brooks deciding to call Pujara “Steve” are quite loose when trying to define them as racism.

Any BAME player released by a county over the last 20 years can claim that it was a decision based on race and as a result ruined his career.
Essex had a player make this claim yesterday. After 11 first class games he had a batting average of 7 and a bowling average of 80 but according to him he was released due to his race!!

Again quite a lot of this stuff has been verified, including by the club itself. It's really not that hard to understand.

Not really following this story, but didnt those in charge release a report saying he hadnt suffered racism, when he blatantly had?Dohnut wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 12:39 am Shame these issues were not raised at the time they occurred. So much time, so much opportunity to sort things out wasted.
Why was that? Maybe time makes them more important. And there’s me thinking the old saying that time is a great healer was true.
Does Compensation heal the hurt? I guess so.

Re: Azeem Rafiq
Brown cricketer suffers from institutional racism during his playing career, racists be like ‘Why didn’t he say something earlier? Why didn’t he leave the club? He’s making it up for the money. It was only banter. It was in the past, we need to stop raking over old ground.’Etc etc
Brown cricketer sends racist messages on social media using lazy tropes, racists be like ‘Racist! Vile rat! Hypocrite’. Etc etc

The sh*t in this thread is absolutely shocking.
Some troubling apologists and excuses there. Would be interested in the average age of the above posters.
A couple of bans have been issued, just in case it wasnt clear.

Re: Azeem Rafiq
The whole thing has become a can of worms for cricket, and suspect that could easily happen in other walks of life too.
When is banter just that, when is it racialism, when is it plain bullying and not race related, when is the race card being played incorrectly? It’s a very fine line at times, and am sure that many, clearly Azeem Rafiq included, have reflected on personal actions in the past and realised that they have made mistakes and are also open to charges of being hypocritical. I’m all for people living and learning from mistakes and not forever being pilloried for them, but part of that is people realising that what they maybe thought was just blokes being blokes and having a laugh crosses the line of what is and isn’t acceptable behaviour.
I’ve always been of simplistic view that what is racialism/ seen as racialism should already be wrong by the law/ society’s standards anyway. For example listening to Azeem Rafiq relate to red wine being forced down his throat as a teen, it isn’t high jinks, it’s plain wrong and unacceptable bullying, assault even, and I see it as equally wrong regardless of anyone’s race or skin colour or what motivated it.
I guess continued education is the answer.
