Aside from Geoffrey Cox, who may be missing one or two of his constituency surgeries due the commute. we have:

former Cabinet Minister Andrew Mitchell has six different consultancy jobs earning him £182,000
Julian Smith is earning £144,000 from three firms
Chris Grayling is on £100,000 advising a ports operator (you couldn't make this one up)
Mark Garnier earns £90,000 a year advising two companies
Alun Cairns is on £60,000 advising three firms
Ruth Edwards gets £60,000 per year from a software company
Stephen Hammond is on £60,000 a year from an investment firm
Steve Brine gets £60,000 a year from three companies
David Davis receives £50,000 a year from two companies

I know it's whatabouterry but..... Corbyn was pulled up for taking £20k from the Iranian State propaganda arm to hold a phone in where people called in to berate jews and that was a smeer/awful depending on your team.

Ban second jobs with exceptions for working for the state to accommodate doctors etc

I’m not convinced about upping the salary. I know it’s lower than could be earned in the private sector holding a similarly senior position but they should be doing this as a public service, not for the dosh.

Saying that, the likes of Johnson and Rees Mogg and Sunak etc to whom £100k p.a. Is an irrelevance would still be in these roles doing their damage because it’s not about the salary for their kind.

I think you could go further an provide serviced apartments for those who have to stay in town, rather than allowing second homes with all the costs paid by the state and the profits on them retained. If you're expecting people to work away from home and do late nights etc then I don't see anything wrong in providing them with decent digs.

The public service/vocation argument is what successive governments have used to keep nurse/police/fire etc pay low/frozen and they get away with it because there's always people who want to do it.

It's a shame that the same key workers who were identified as the cogs that keep the country going last Spring are now forgotten.

MPs are part of a small minority of people we entrust to make decisions on how we're governed and should be paid well for it. Not least because for some they give up their career for only 2 years employment before losing their seat and the good ones work joke hours for their constituency.

It's not a salary to be sniffed at for sure for most of us

It's the question of whether we want to make the job (which can be very limited) enticing for everyone including the so called high fliers and working classes.

A good MP more than earns their money, we shouldn't be putting people off from either end of the spectrum and given their responsibility/role I don't think it's obtuse to suggest they earn similar to what an experienced NHS doctor earns
