The climate 'emergency'- just how much of an emergency is it? Crusty on gmb said something about 3-4 years...?

If you lean gently to the right then try correcting it. The person to our right at home games is developing a bad back from being leant on...Beradogs wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 8:11 am
That is excellent. I never understand why the right get so angry and gammony when it comes to climate change or anything related. I gently lean to the right and it’s clearly one of the biggest if not the biggest issue that mankind has ever faced yet people are angry they are an hour later for work. I guess there is something to be said for the right being more self centred.

Re: Insulate Britain M25 protest
It's getting dragged into that 'don't tread on me' instinct isn't it, the feeling that I've always lived a certain way and being told I need to change that is somehow an attack on my identity (ironically enough). And there's that feeling that by someone else explicitly doing something they feel is a societal good, like veganism or in a way cycling, that's a tacit f*ck you to those that don't do those things.Beradogs wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 8:11 am

Plus people go properly bananas over their cars. You have lifelong apolitical types in London turning into Malcolm X over some road closures.

A reflection on the state of the things when working class people are tying up protestors.

Re: Insulate Britain M25 protest
There are other things Insulate Britain could do that would get them publicity and make an impact whilst not disproportionately affecting working people who can least afford it. For instance, they could blockade access onto large residential construction sites in the capital. Bringing those to a standstill would certainly get attention.
But overall their campaign has been effective. All those dodgy insulation manufacturers such as Kingspan are rubbing their hands together at the prospect of increased shareholder dividends.

Maybe it’s working class people trying to work. Earn money, feed their family, pay the bills, get to the doctors, help get their kids an education. The sort of activity working Class people do. The protesters are clearly not working class.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 10:05 amA reflection on the state of the things when working class people are tying up protestors.

They've also publicly asked 'why arent we in jail yet?' which seemed a bit odd to me. If they just want to make the govt look silly they're doing a good job.

It really does, doesn't it. I have no idea if that's a good thing or not, however I suspect that it is deliberate.

I'm sure they're supported by people that want their gaff done up for free and it for it to be paid for by those in work

I was thinking more Northerners who like nothing better than to sit in the pub supping an ale and laughing at the inconvenience suffered by them in that London.Prestige Worldwide wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 11:18 amMiddle class retirees and city dwellers who dont need to go anywhere?Max B Gold wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 10:52 amThere are literally millions of people it doesn't piss off.Prestige Worldwide wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 10:44 am Its effective at pissing off people, I dont know about anything else.
