Christ, I am so done with this. But I'm stating to get an uneasy feeling, as there's definitely a drip-drip of hints and winks (which has bene a pattern of government communication throughout this pandemic) that all is not well and we may need to make further changes.

Purely anecdotal:

My team commenced a hybrid office/home working pilot at the beginning September. This involves us all working in the office on Mondays and Tuesdays, and from home the remainder. When in the office we are operating with safety protocols - i.e. 2 meter desk spacing, one way systems around the office, compulsory mask wearing etc.

Allowing for the size of the team, out of a possible 5250 working hours in the pilot so far, we have lost 490 hours due to Covid. That's a 9.33% loss. And the rate of Covid absence has increased throughout the duration of the pilot period.

The advice we are receiving is that current trends will continue and this will get worse as vaccine-induced immunity naturally wanes, and with the possible emergence of more transmissible variants. As a business we're already struggling to operate, but we have no idea what we'll do should Covid absences result in working-hour losses of, say, 15-20%. How does the world operate on that basis?

Are you still council?

Surely you’re used to operating with that level of absenteeism?

Literally no chance of anyone sticking to any lockdown this winter.

Sounds like the booster programme is a deepening disaster and having sat on their hands with under 16 vaccinations, we're now getting to the case and mortality numbers that are pretty scary.

Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the (virus) waves.......

In the interests of making money we are all part of a huge experiment to see if herd immunity works. We're slow, whether by design or ineptitude, to roll out the 3rd jab which, using data from Israel, seems very effective. If I was the slightest religious I'd be praying hard over the Winter.

Herd immunity isn't the aim anymore, it's impossible to achieve. We have 90%+ of population with antibodies now, but reinfection is possible within 5 months of recovery. We are going to go through cycles of reinfection for the foreseeable and just have to hope with each reinfection, the cases we get are less severe, to the point where it becomes no more than a nuisance. It's pretty bleak.

The f*ck up with booster roll out is appalling seeing as we know how effective that will be. Government claimed all the credit for initial rollout so sure they'll hold their hands up about this debacle.

It's also to do with waning vaccine effect. To a certain extent we're paying the price of our early vaccine rollout. Third-shot boosters are crucial, although even they only offer a further six months protection.

49k cases reported today with testing levels pretty much static.

Is there anywhere we can view the data by region or age group?

I heard somewhere on the media, that all over 70's will be invited for a booster jab this week. Being a good citizen I waited. However I was texted to see Diabetic Nursie. So I rang Surgery to make the necessary. Quickly added " what's happening re booster jabs?" Was handed an appointment for Saturday. So NHS not exactly being proactive. Now listening Beeb News Channel and Government blaming us punters for slow take-up of booster jabs.
