Re: PANIC buyers
Does anyone actually know a PANIC buyer?
My social media feeds are full of people moaning about these greedy bastards, from people who really do need fuel, but no one has admitted to buying any?

Also, why wouldn’t you go and buy some when you know everyone else is behaving like a willy and buying it all up?

Last night I managed to get £17.20's worth for the taxi. £30 at Asda in Binwood and £35 at Esso garage in Elderslie for the wife's . Now got a full tank for my trip to Devon, via Oxford, Reading and Barrow. Woohoo.Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 2:46 pm Also, why wouldn’t you go and buy some when you know everyone else is behaving like a willy and buying it all up?

Re: PANIC buyers
If you're blaming ordinary people who are simply trying their best to be able to get on with their lives and provide for their families for any shortages of supply, then you're blaming the wrong people.
If you're blaming those people through the medium of Social Media, or comment sections, or phone ins - then you're directly helping to amplify the messages that set people off worrying that they'll not be able to get on with their lives and provide for their families unless they go out and stock up.

Re: PANIC buyers
At a certain point panic buying becomes a rational response.
How the f*ck have Tories managed to pin an international financial crisis on Labour for over a decade and yet as the only country in Europe experiencing a petrol crisis, they are successfully blaming Twitter and LBC?

Now that we've had The Great Divide, the Tories can basically blame any f*** up they cause on Foreigns (esp. the French), Remoaners, the Young, etc etc (so long is it's not them), and c.50% of the population will uncritically accept that story and continue to back them blindly. The alternative would be to admit to themselves that they've been fooled, and that's just too horrible to contemplate.

All the pictures I've seen on social media at the pumps are middle aged and old white men. Shelves a bit bare in the supermarkets, so I guess they've struck there too.
What do they think is going to happen exactly?
Do you not think youre OP was a tad racist too?

Imagine, if you can, how worried about having enough petrol that bloke is. He's turning his car into a rolling molotov cocktail, for f*** sake! What do you think he's doing it for ? fun? Do you think he's planning on selling it, somehow?Prestige Worldwide wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 3:30 pmStillSpike wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 3:10 pm If you're blaming ordinary people who are simply trying their best to be able to get on with their lives and provide for their families for any shortages of supply, then you're blaming the wrong people.

You don't know his circumstances at all do you? - maybe he's in the gig economy as a driver, and he's terrified he's not going to be able to work for the coming week.

Well, the Chairman of the Petrol Retailers Association has said it's down to "panic buying, pure and simple". And given this was sparked by 1% of BP forecourts closing...

YouGov poll today:
"Who do you think is to blame for petrol stations running out of fuel?"
The public 22%
The government 23%
The media 47%

Re: PANIC buyers
Well you can load the "Public" % on to that of the media, since the Public wouldn't have known about it without "the Media" spreading the story.
If only 1% of forecourts had a shortage of supply, how is that newsworthy? I wonder who started the story - and why? It certainly is an object lesson in how to start a panic (and how to focus (i.e. divert) attention).

Re: PANIC buyers
You'd hope one of the better outcomes of this is that some of the fear mongering peddled by that same media about asylum seekers flooding the country or people skiving off on benefits is viewed with a bit more skepticism.

So its nothing to do with hardly any petrol being bought between March 2019 & May 2021 ,
Millions of Gallons of Petrol about to expire , what a terrible waste of money that would be
Especially on such a profitable commodity as it is .
What do we do to make sure we SELL IT ?
