PANIC buyers
Who are these people and what is wrong with them?
All the pictures I've seen on social media at the pumps are middle aged and old white men. Shelves a bit bare in the supermarkets, so I guess they've struck there too.
What do they think is going to happen exactly?

Re: PANIC buyers
PW has fallen victim to the propaganda. Yes the Public are to blame for the shortages of petrol and just about anything else. But the blame is not due to panic buying. It is due to voting ( by a narrow margin ) to leave the EU and voting for Boris and his band of crooks and shysters. The Govt wasn't prepared for all our shortcomings when we left the EU. The snivelling greedy employers, refuse to pay sensible wages. The manufacturers and producers milk this situation to hike their prices. Oh, how they must rub their hands in glee at the stupidity and gullibility of voters

Re: PANIC buyers
What is the very first thing that is likely to happen if you seed a story "There's no need to PANIC BUY!" ? What are people most likely to do immediately after reading/hearing that story?
So now we have a ready made set of "villains" of the piece, and we all focus on them, tutting over our breakfasts, hitting the frowny face on fizzbook stories, and competing with each other about how OUTRAGED we are by our fellow citizens, all the while not looking at those who have actually been in charge of the country, making the decisions that have led to this situation.

No doubt theres a shortage of lorry drivers but, kind of difficult to tell if there would be enough 'stuff' to go around if people werent being greedy.Clive Evans wrote: βTue Sep 28, 2021 11:14 am PW has fallen victim to the propaganda. And a not overly attractive job / lifestyle
And C-19 creating a massive need for short-haul / local distribution services which are more attractive
And EU workers realising that all the above makes it simpler to work in their native country
And there are equal shortages in Spain, Greece, Germany & Poland.

Re: PANIC buyers
There really aren't equal shortages. Food, gas, petrol, goods shortages are proper state failure type markers. This government's one talent is wedding themselves so fully to brexit that any f*ck up they make, criticism of it becomes some kind of extension of 'remoaners' type bollox.Orient_Man_And_Boy wrote: βTue Sep 28, 2021 12:11 pmAnd IR35Clive Evans wrote: βTue Sep 28, 2021 11:14 am PW has fallen victim to the propaganda. Brexit didn't need to result in this stuff and can't be the reason Johnson and co are given a permanent blank cheque to run the country terribly.

By any measure if the population of a country can't get fuel and the shelves are running bare then it's the fault of the govt. End of.

Re: PANIC buyers
According to the government and the fuel industry there is enough to go around if people didnβt panic. These panic buyers make me sick . They turn a problem into a crisis.Prestige Worldwide wrote: βTue Sep 28, 2021 11:36 amNo doubt theres a shortage of lorry drivers but, kind of difficult to tell if there would be enough 'stuff' to go around if people werent being greedy.Clive Evans wrote: βTue Sep 28, 2021 11:14 am PW has fallen victim to the propaganda. Re: PANIC buyers
Am fortunate that we're not overly reliant on cars for work / personal use so not as affected. Neither car has more than 1/3 of a tank but I can't really be arsed to go and queue for 2 hours when I'm not going anywhere anyway.
What does concern me is the problem being the inability to move petrol quick enough to meet demand. Every time a petrol station has a delivery it's surrounded as soon as the tanker pulls up. Until there's enough drivers to move it all, it'll be a vicious circle of supply being constantly depleted before the situation can stabilise.

I know you're more of a tube man but you should go and get petrol, I'm sure you'll be offered a place right at the front of the queue.

Re: PANIC buyers
Actually, panic buyers are being eminently sensible, and understand the situation far better than the government.
The government says there is plenty of fuel, so there is no need to panic buy. Panic buyers also know there is plenty of fuel, but that others will be panic buying, so there won't be any at their pumps when they need it. They have recognised a shortage well before the government.
