Please list & compare. For me:
1 Travelling to away matches. Had to be at Stamford Bridge at Midnight to catch the coach to : Sunderland, Huddersfield, Stoke, Liverpool etc.
2 Cold houses, in my house only one or two rooms were heated. Had to have a hot water bottle in Winter. Net curtains often froze to window pane.
3 Sweets were rationed, in 1950 the ration went down to 4oz / week
4 Winter evenings, no TV until as was 9 ( that was fairly early for most ). My mum & her cousin did embroidery or sewing whilst listening to the radio
5 Food was boring. Meat & cheese were rationed. Could only get Government Cheddar Cheese.
What hardships do you remember?

we didnt have to carry the fizzy drinks bottles back to get 5 pence back .

Plastic is so much easier to throw away in a bin &

Decent beer in the South, only ever got a good pint at away games like Blackburn.
That was apart from Youngs or Fullers, not an over abundance of their pubs North of the Thames.
