I love these protests, even though I've been caught up in them a couple of times.
It's only protest after protest, that gets anything done in this country.
I love it when it pisses off the right wingers too, so it's win win for me
What have the exstinktion rebellion crusties achieved so far?
Not just in the U.K. i totally agree. And it does need to be 0% and it is moving in the right direction. But the U.K. achieving 0% won’t make a massive difference as other countries fail to go in the same direction.
I look forward to all these protest groups going over to China and creating disruption. Of course they won’t, they don’t have the balls. And if they did, they wouldn’t have their balls very long. They would just disappear from sight.
This is not a U.K. fight, it is a global fight.
Might as well give up then, given that it will be difficult.
Although, I think calling this 'difficult' is a bit of an understatement. Any meaningful success is going to require a high degree of international cooperation. I think that is becoming less likely by the day.
absolutely. The point about China isn't wrong.
But these sorts of discussions are always surrounded by people spouting the same fallacy (i'm sure they have a name - but i'm not intelligent enough to know what it is) that unless you are going to solve everything, tomorrow, there's absolutely no point in doing anything. Add to that the various 'they wouldn't be able to protest if they had a job' comments are just right wingers scared their little nests might get tampered with.

Had you asked the same question of the Suffragettes' protests right up to the time they finally got the vote then the answer would have been "nothing, yet". I guess the XR folk would give a similar answer now.
"The woman's son Chris said he was 'so angry and so upset' as he watched his mum 'slip away' while they were stuck in standstill traffic on the M25. Doctors said her recovery would have been minimal if she had arrived within 90 minutes".
*******
So the Dictors said There was very little chance of help
if she had got to them within 90 minutes ..
So why did you post this exactly ?

And your point is?
The world has changed.
Yep.
However, what is constant is that if you ask any Protest movement what their protests have achieved, before they achieve them, then the answer will be "nothing, yet".
Whether these particular protests will achieve their aims remains to be seen - I hope they do because the insulation thing seems quite a no-brainer to me.

It won’t be solved because humans are the last species you would want to solve it. We are way too greedy and self centred. It just ain’t gonna happen. There is something called the Fermi paradox. One of the arguments it makes as to why aliens have never visited despite some planets being millions/billions of years older than our own is that mankind or whatever intelligent life is on other planets can never get past a certain level of intellectual development before destroying themselves. The great filter. Global warming will be our great filter. There is no doubt we are going the way of the dinosaurs in the next few hundred years. Most of the worlds population have not even started to consume in large quantities yet.

I just cant think of any recent protests that achieved anything substantial. Isnt demanding things a bit like terrorism and subverting democracy?

so protests in E10 were terrorists terrorising bealzebub & his motley italian crew then ?

But not all humans are like that.
True, but specialists that insure for existential risk have us between 6 and 19% for complete human extinction by the end of this century. That is scarily high.

And I'd suggest the last few decades before the final end won't be much fun either. Glad I'll be dead before then, to be honest.
