Other than the fact she's lived here for 90% of her life
ive lived here 95 % of my life & im not
If you dont feel British, then that is your own personal choice. Emma has lived in the UK for most of her life and regards her lifestyle and national identity as British, that is good enough. Let us concentrate on her great skills as a tennis player and of being a thoroughly nice young lady.
Indeed Sidney .
just pointing out that as usual people are saying British
to mean superior .
Let the Young Woman have a Chance to win & Enjoy before
heaping 100+ years of empirical decline on her shoulders .
Yeah her pigment looks exactly like that of native white Brits
Wonder if those on the left disputing her Englishness would have the same opinion if she was an Afghan refugee whose parents fled here when she was a baby
So weird
What’s a native Brit look like mate?
What even is a native Brit?
Saxon, Roman, Norman, Stig of the dump?
So any of our sportspeople who have different pigment to what you call a native brit shouldn't be called British?
What a load of old cobblers
We were raped and pillaged by the Vikings and our women were used as sex slaves by the Romans. Doubt any of us are 100% British

Plus the Normans who invaded England in 1066.
I read somewhere that the genes to the ancient Britons are more likely to be found in Cornish and Welsh people.

This is all a bit weird, isn’t it. The usual right wing bigots fawning all over an immigrant because she’s successful, attractive and not that foreign-looking.

LOL I knew someone would try pull me up on that
I meant she doesn’t look like a native Brit in the eyes of the “right wing bigots” Hotdogs was referring to
I’ll ask again - would those denying her Britishness also say that an Afghan refugee who came here as a baby and lived here 20 years isn’t British?
It has to be because she’s from a privileged background doesn’t it. Fuking freaks

If she self identifies as British then that's fine by me. Can't help thinking though that this Final is also about who will be the Wimins Tennis Bats Champion of Canada. Although to be fair the Canadian (Emmas opponent, not Emma) has a fairly complicated claim to be Canadian. It's all very confusing for an Irish Scotsman.

Yes, I’d obviously ‘deny’ this theoretical refugee Britishness as well.
But I’d also have no problem with them living in, enjoying and contributing to this country. You don’t need to have a Union Jack badge of honour for that.

Is tennis normally this entertaining?
Both players playing incredibly well, first time Emma's had a match and there is nothing between them.
As I said on another thread, the top women's tennis now as entertaining as the men's, if not more so because you don't get the power servers that you get in the men's game and so the ball is in play more often.
