Green signed a 2.5yr contract at the end of last year and his contract was paid up. Paying him off will have been a big hit but under SCMP the owners can offset ridiculous wages by injecting funds as turnover. Only having three men and a dog turning up to games isn't a problem.

Salford"s strikers weren't that great and I bet they weren't cheap for National league level. Bonne was a great find and cost nothing and delivered goals under immense pressure for two seasons. Koroma , what a talented player.
With a higher standard of service we would have been champions by January.

Please explain the details of his contract. I’m interested in knowing. Plus of course what went on when his agent was in discussions with the club and what if any verbal agreements they made, which if any, I have no doubt the club would. Have honoured contract or not.

There is also the issue of refusing an offer and having a pissed off player for a year, before he pisses off for nothing.

The big difference- Not just with Salford but any side further down the leagues is Koroma/Bonne are still both under 23. It’s far easier to keep more established players for a multitude of reasons, not just their age but off the pitch as well, families etc.

Danny Rowe’s been scoring for fun at Fylde for a few seasons now and if he was Bonne’s age, he’d have gone long ago into the football league. It’s why we’ll have no problem holding on to some of our best players from last season that are more experienced.

You can’t begrudge a young player the chance to move up 2 leagues. And in all likelihood player power is such these days that Salford may not be able to keep their best young players either in years to come (they just didn’t have any stand out ones last season to my knowledge)

Very good post. The crucial difference is the age/ experience of the relative players. Bonne & Koroma can potentially get better and are therefore more sought after - Rooney & Gaffney are pretty much known quantities - effective but limited long term upside. No guarantees about Bonne & Koroma of course but clubs like Charlton and Huddersfield are obviously prepared to take a calculated risk.
