I’d have Judd in the first 11 every time

You’ve forgot sargent in that team.

I hope Ling Jnr is not preferred to Judd as he is in my opinion the weaker of the two players. Of course each player has to earn his place first.

6 out (Koroma, Bonne, Simpson, Lee, Lawless, Alabi probably)
2 in (Wright, Wilkinson)

Threadbare squad, weak from CM upwards. Big changes need to be made now or it'll be a real struggle.

The present squad size is just a byproduct of announcing the players who were being released without allowing time for replacements. We obviously will bring in at least three more players.

If the spirit of Edinburgh lives on, then we will have two players for each position in the side.

I don't think we will be 5-3-2 this season, that was an emergency measure. Results improved because it immediately took out the weak links but I don't think performances surpassed what we saw at the start of the season.

Assuming that Shadrach Ogie can be backup left-back ,Dayton signs his deal and Alabi leaves I think we might be looking at three signings and maybe a half-season loan to cover Dayton.

If we go back to 4-4-2, Happe may as well clear off to Huddersfield U23s with Koroma as well.

Also, Clay and Wright isn’t strong enough as a midfield pairing without the assistance of JWMD dropping back in with them and 3 CBS behind them, imo.

There is no doubt in my mind, that the squad will be bigger than it is now, by Aug 2nd. how much bigger is contentious. I think we need at the very minimum, four more, but i would be happier with 5 or 6 more. I believe we need 4 strikers plus Ruel.....we have two at present, so two more needed.

We need two more in midfield too, and thats the minimum four i was talking about above.

Im a little nervous to be honest, as this time last year, Ling brought in Alabi, and any more duff strikers will be a fatal blow

The next 10 days will be interesting

Today, Saturday 22 June 2019, marks the second anniversary of the Eagle Investments 2017 takeover of Leyton Orient Football Club.

Chairman Nigel Travis said, "We are all pleased to recognise the second anniversary of our takeover but given the recent sad passing of Justin Edinburgh, we will not be celebrating the event this year.

As I mentioned in my video last Sunday there are many comings and goings at this time of year and our goal is to improve our squad so that we can compete well in League Two. I will take this opportunity to welcome new players to the Club and congratulate Ross, Danny and Jobi on their well earned 'interim' appointments."

Many comings and goings, so they are not shying away that new players coming in.

I understand why we went to 5-3-2 last season but I like the formation. It did strengthen our midfield but we didn't play narrower. I would favour retaining it for the first few games at least.

I agree with that. But I don't recall Ling Snr being very fond of 3 at the back, and I think his input will be greater this year. My thinking:

GK: Brill/Sargeant

LB: Widdowson/Ogie
CB: Coulson/Happe
CB: Ekpiteta/Turley
RB: Ling/Judd

LW: Brophy/McAnuff
CM: Wright/Gorman
CM: Clay/ New Player
RM: JMD/Dayton

CF: Wilkinson/New Player
CF: New Player/Harrold

Obviously the new players are key. Three top end L2 signings and the squad outlook is different.

For example, if Bonne were to be replaced by someone like Akinde that would be a fair enough swap and I don't think we would have lost out. If we got in a really hard worker in the middle (L2 version of Chambers/Dawson), it could be an exciting enough side with pace on both wings. Brophy really needs to up his game this season though, got let off last year by being played out of position in a variety of roles, but in his preferred role he needs to have some end product.

Just to remind everyone that Akinde has two years left on his contract and has just been promoted with the L2 champions as their top scorer.

I think we are stronger with Brophy in the starting eleven...Judd’s battling qualities are a positive, too. We have a formidable defensive unit.

Like the way you've laid that out, the one I disagree with is Harrold as 4th striker. We're taking a huge gamble classing him as a possible starter. As an extra impact player fair enough but no more than that given his injury record.

Also have to watch out at the back as both Happe and Ekpiteta were being scouted last season. Still every chance one or both could go.

How many games did Harrold miss through injury last season?

Not many because JE didn't use him as a starter. He's a head on a stick to go direct with at the end of a game, not someone you send running after loose balls from the start. JE knew this and used him in that impact role to great effect.

If this season we start games with Harrold watch him break down again like how he did in the past.

Seen it happen too many times with Orient to expect that we'll suddenly show ambition and get the strength of squad we need to challenge at this level. It needed work with the players we had (CM particularly) with Bonne and Koroma getting us off the hook numerous times. With an inexperienced temporary management team faced with a larger rebuild than many hoped for it looks a bit dicey right now.

I'm sure we will.

Let's just hope that we sign enough of them, and ones of good enough quality too.

The players that come in have to be top quality. Not just squad fillers but first team starters.

We knew we had weaknesses last season but they were covered over by our exceptional forward line, our exceptional centre halves, and changing tactics to add an extra man in midfield. The 2 strikers coming in need to be good enough to rotate with Wilkinson, we've been amazingly lucky these past 2 seasons that Bonne just doesn't miss games. The midfielder needs to challenge Wright and Clay too, ideally starting ahead of Craig. No disrespect to Gorman but he was unable to do it an NL level so not sure how much use he will be in L2.

The pressure is really on to get these next 3/4 signings absolutely spot on.
