Just watched the BMX racing. It just looks like kids riding their toy bikes. Still, we got medals in it.

That woman commentating on the BMX or actually just shouting was bloody awful.
If you watch it on the BBC site, do yourself a favour and mute it

Re: 2020 (21) Olympic Thread
Why was I surprised to hear that a " toff " sport like rowing received more funding than any other GB sports? The Cockney girl who won Olympic gold on BMX was forced to crowd fund to get to Tokyo. The Toffs won very few medals ( but I expect all their hangers-on had a nice jolly to Japan ). UK is still a very class divided country.

Re: 2020 (21) Olympic Thread
It's not rocket science. Funding is targeted at sports where success is more likely. Historically this been rowing and not BMX. Following this Olympics rowing funding will probably reduce and BMX will probably increase. Not that easy to know where to target funding without a crystal ball.Clive Evans wrote: βFri Jul 30, 2021 12:39 pm Why was I surprised to hear that a " toff " sport like rowing received more funding than any other GB sports? I reckon they got a lot of Olympic funding from the likes of Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pincent and their various contacts, both legends in the "sport" of Rowing.Clive Evans wrote: βFri Jul 30, 2021 12:39 pm Why was I surprised to hear that a " toff " sport like rowing received more funding than any other GB sports? Re: 2020 (21) Olympic Thread
When London got the Olympics they identified sports that offered the best chance of gold for pound spend. Rowing and cycling were the 2 top ones as most of the world can't compete in them. They were proven correct with the gold haul in London.Clive Evans wrote: βFri Jul 30, 2021 12:39 pm Why was I surprised to hear that a " toff " sport like rowing received more funding than any other GB sports? Re: 2020 (21) Olympic Thread
Did anyone else see the German in the Modern Pentathlon lose the plot in the showjumping? Cried her eyes out and really laid into the horse with whip and boot. And then her coach punched the poor nag. Maybe she's from Newcastle...
Still, at least Brit won in the end in this strangest of events: more Victorian cavalry officer skills than "modern"...

Golds in modern pentathlon, sailing and horsies. Also medal in the shotguns. The toffs have been serving the country well.slacker wrote: βSat Aug 07, 2021 2:40 pm Did anyone else see the German in the Modern Pentathlon lose the plot in the showjumping? I saw the Kraut punch the horse. Commentators didn't say anything. I thought maybe my eyes deceived me. Now all over the media. Disgraceful!

At the end of the day the horse is only an animal . Somebody should have given that rider and coach a good slap for that .slacker wrote: βSat Aug 07, 2021 2:40 pm Did anyone else see the German in the Modern Pentathlon lose the plot in the showjumping?
