The Gov UK site only shows PCR tests up until 20th July. It does show Lateral tests declining up to the 24th though. Where are you getting that graph from?

It would be more meaningful to be using the same datasource.

Well that doesn't link to any source data, and the Times article does show a drop in testing.

Plus the graph you show comes from "Politics for All" - isn't this run by some 18 year old young Conservative wazzock?

To be absolutely honest, I'd bloody love your graph to be an accurate indication of our current situation. I don't really care if I'm wrong and you're right just as long as the situation is improving. However, it's too early to see the full impact of opening up last Monday and in the meantime we do know that Hospital admissions and Critical Care bed use are both up so you'll have to excuse my not doing cartwheels just yet.

My gut feel is that people might be showing symptoms but just won’t bother to get tested anymore, as Covid is now over.

The figures are unreliable, and misleading.

Better statistics are the number of people being admitted to hospital and no. Of patients on ventilators, both of which are up.
Anyone who thinks this pandemic is receding, is naive, or just plain stupid.

I don’t think that anyone can doubt that the combination of the vaccine and immunity are having an impact on the virus. Positive cases falling for 6 days in a row is not simply a case of less testing. Surely the vaccine is limiting the number of people needing a test.
We all knew that the only way out of this was a vaccine. We have one and it appears to be working as they said it would.
Even the scientists are cautiously optimistic. Everybody took notice of them when they told us how bad this virus would be. Why not listen to them now

This may well be true for many people. If vaccines reduce Covid to the levels of a bad cold, then that’s good.
