Recruitment- What do we need?

Post by Lifelongfan »

Team looked very organised v WH & TH. Thought we would have recruited more by now. What do we need as a minimum?

Right back & another forward for me. What else?

Hopefully Harry Smith will be fit join us in time for the weekend, here’s your other forward.
Reckon we’ll hold back a certain amount of funds to see how we are after a few months.

We need Admin to put all these "Lets start another thread because I can't be asked to read others that don't appear on the first page but are 99.9% the same as the one I am starting " threads together.

We seem most short in those offensive positions, the CAMs and wingers or whatever you want to call them.

I disagree. Our squad is currently too weak if we want to get a good start to the season.

I agree with this , a couple of players needed in my opinion.

Without knowing what system we're going to use its kind of difficult to say what we're going to need. So far in pre-season we've played something like a defensive 4-5-1 morphing into a fluid 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 when we have the ball.

Its clear for everyone to see that we need a right back at least. I think we'll sign someone who can play as a 10 and wide. Smyth and Sotiriou can play wide or through the middle, Drinan and Smith play through the middle. Kemp can play wide or in the 10. There's definitely space there for one more.

Central midfield is packed. Centre back looks sorted. Left back is sorted. Goalkeeper is sorted.

So, tldr: 1/2 right backs, 1 attacking midfielder.

Is it clear? We’ve needed a right back for the last 4 years

I'm kind of hoping we don't offer Lee Hodson anything. The guy has been a bit of a flop everywhere he's been since he left MK Dons in 2016. He didn't impress at Kilmarnock. He was quickly found out a Rangers and loaned out to St. Mirren. Then he rolled up at Gillingham who quickly binned him off back to St. Mirren on loan where he barely played and then he was out on loan again to Hamilton who apparently didn't ask him to stick around either.

Feeling very optimistic about the new season. The friendlies against top opposition were encouraging; seemed to have a good shape, enthusiasm and understanding of how Jackett wants them to play with high pressing.

However... do feel the squad needs another three or four players...

1. Goalkeeper - Lawrence Vigouroux
2. Right Back - ?
3. Defender - Omar Beckles
4. Defender - Adam Thompson
5. Full Back - Connor Wood
6. Midfield - Hector Kyprianou
7. Midfield - Dan Kemp
8. Midfield - Darren Pratley
9. Winger - ?
10. Forward - Paul Smyth
11. Forward - Harry Smith

Substitutes:
Goalkeeper: Sergeant
Goalkeeper: Byrne
Full Back: Sweeney
Defender: Ogie
Defender: Happe
Midfield: Clay
Midfield: Cisse
Midfield: Young
Midfield: Papadopoulos
Forward: Sotirou
Forward - Drinan

Signings?
- Right Back - Elvis Bwomono (Southend)
- Winger - Callum Harriott (Colchester)
- Forward: Alfie May (Cheltenham)
OR
- Forward: Kabongo Tshimanga (Boreham Wood)

Someone who can be assured 100% of being in the starting line-up and who can score 95% of all penalties we are awarded. That'll do me.

Don’t think we have a goalscorer with 20 goals in him. Not sure how the forwards we have will operate .Would like to see 2wingers with pace.Definitely want a right back . Clay is not the answer. Can’t see either Clay or Cisse being in the first team so need another midfielder.
