I have been looking at the figures throughout Europe wondering why the UKs number of cases is so high compared to other countries. No doubting what a horrible virus this is but it just strikes me that although the vaccines are in most part doing there job our case rates seem to be growing exponentially compared with other parts of Europe.
Purely down to the higher transmissibility of the delta variant. It will take a hold in Europe soon enough, it's just that it arrived here earlier. France, for example, is predicting a new wave in Sept/Oct.
The numbers that matter most right now are deaths and hospitalisations and we're on a par with most European countries on those figures.
Case numbers and Critical beds took a bit of a hike upwards today. Increases in deaths has always followed behind any increase in Critical bed occupation. Here's hoping that isn't the case this time but it demonstrates that we still need to take precautions, and that should probably continue past the 19th July. Good luck everyone.
Seems as though my previous posts about travel to and from India by 40,000 selfish , irresponsible, folk who choose to ignore the advice has returned to bite , as I said it would at the time.
Those few travellers who decided that sensible rules don’t apply to them have brought the whole of Europe to its knees again. Well done to them

And therein lies the issue with Boris trusting people to behave responsibly!

Plus there's been an exodus of experienced nursing staff due to the stress and indifference to their situation/pay by the Government and, really disappointingly, the public.

Bit misleading though - treatments have changed and it’s no good for anyone to be laid up in a hospital bed longer than necessary. Would prefer the measure of available hospital beds; if there is one. I’ll ask the Wife - she does something in the hospital.
