Additionally Saka had played well in earlier games but looked like a little boy out of his depth tonight. Is that Southgates fault?
Italy, once the got over the bad start, changing their set up to negate the good play down the wings then controlled the game.

Rashford’s pen just displayed lack of experience, one of the worse I’ve ever seen
I feel sorry for Rashford and the teenagers brought on to rescue the match.
Respect for them but no respect from me for those England players who instantly removed the runner-up medals from their neck.
Arrogant tossers!
There is a dignity in accepting a fair defeat.

I think you mean Losers medals. Who wants to wear them ?
Rashford did NOT lose this match for England.
It will be interesting to see just how much his failed penalty kick will be used by little Englanders and certain media to try and rubbish him and his community engagement.

Saka only enhanced his reputation with this tournament while Sancho wasnt given a chance, but Rashford showed regression or at least just plateaued.
The players taking them off I agree with the losers medal coment.

Yep. Not sure why we went on the back-foot after a very decent opening spell, but it allowed the Italians to adjust and back in the game. And eventually they controlled it, whilst we stopped playing out from the back or running at their back line so even the scraps dried up. They weren’t stellar themselves, but deserved the pot more than us by the end.
Southgate made some errors last night: not least bringing on 2 players just to take pens so late. But some players also dipped or struggled: Sterling, Henderson, Mount, Saka we’re the most obvious ones, but crucially both wingbacks ended up ineffectual as attacking outlets.
I half expected Chiellini or Bonucci to appear alongside Kane in the after match interview.
Only time he got away from them last night, woeful performance from our centre forward.

We Clearly Didn’t deliberately allow Italy back in the game
