Re: Labour Watch
I will be shocked if Labour hold Batley and Spen .
Most Muslim voters will not vote Labour, because they say Starmer is too pro Israel. Without those votes, Labour are struggling.
Personally I hope Labour lose the seat, and Starmer steps down, though I'm not overjoyed by any of the likely candidates that might replace him.
A totally corrupt government, and a useless opposition... What a mess this countries in.

Re: Labour Watch
Last day of campaigning in Batley and Spen where important local issues such as Kashmir, Palestine, and the Muslim/Hindu divide have been to the fore.
If Labour lose tomorrow will it be a new Dawn for them? 40% of Labour members want Sir Kier out if they do.
George Galloway never fails to amuse in his interviews.

So how much are Labour gonna lose Batley and Spen by?
And how many minutes past the count will it take for Owen Jones to call for Starmer to resign?

Re: Labour Watch
The Labour leader who should have resigned, but didn't, was anti-semite Corbyn who lead the party to its biggest defeat in 84 years in 2019. He retained the support of the party apparatchiks but failed to win over the electorate. Oops! Bit of an oversight in a free and fair election. The question then as now remains: do Labour supporters want a Leader who will reflect their hard left positions (Foot, Corbyn) or a centrist who will get them elected at a GE. Because they can't have both.

The left have never accepted Starmer being democratically elected by a huge majority of members

Corbyn didn't accept responsibility for the overwhelming GE defeat - "We won the argument"
or the findings of the Equalities and Human Rights Commission that the Labour Party under his leadership had been "responsible for unlawful acts of harassment and discrimination" i.e. antisemitism. Last I heard he was suing Labour over settling the court case arising.

Re: Labour Watch
When Starmer was campaigning for the position of leader, he stated that his policy manifesto would be like the one so popular under Corbyn's leadership. He abandoned it as soon as he was elected. Call that 'honest'?Currywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 11:30 pm The left have never accepted Starmer being democratically elected by a huge majority of members
Poor Starmer, now he doesn't seem to know at all what he should be claiming to stand for.

I have an offspring who voted for him and is totally gutted with his lies. I did tell him not to vote for him for all the reasons that are now obvious.

Re: Labour Watch
Majority of just over 300 votes. A wins a win I suppose and for Starmer some much needed breathing space but again it’s reflective of the changing landscape. Perhaps Matt Hancock’s stunning CCTV performance went some way to swaying some wavering Labour voters back to the fold?
Regardless of your view of Sir Keef, this result is preferable to seeing some braying Tory tw*t claiming victory. Be grateful for small mercies.

We salute the Rank
Not the Man .
Labour above Leader .
Always was, always will be .
That message seems to have become lost .
The sooner it is back, the sooner we can stand against
Right & Wrong than over left right or red & blue
