Looking at the governments own slides today, of a random 500 in hospital with COVID, 36 had been double jabbed so partially effective is the answer. One or two more mutations should make them useless by about October.

None of the vaccines have ever stated they are 100% effective, however they have all had proven effectiveness and symptoms reduction. Despite mutations none of them as yet have been made useless. As the number of people vaccinated goes up, the percentage of those vaccinated catching the disease will go up just due to mathematics. Despite increasing cases, the deaths continue to drop.

Yeah, the whole "confusing source for sauce" thing is nothing other downright tedious after being done for the umpteenth time.

Different stains are to be expected happens in the flu all the time. If it becomes antibiotic resistant then we have a problem.

Both Covid and Flu are viral infections. Antibiotics are used against bacterial infections and are a waste of time against viruses.

The way I understood it is that the vaccines greatly reduces the chances of you dying or getting seriously sick with Covid . It doesn’t actually stops you from catching it . Look, this virus is going nowhere and is here to stay . We’re just going to have to learn to live with it. We can’t keep going on having lockdowns after lockdowns otherwise it would have been a waste of time getting vaccinated

vaccine
/ˈvaksiːn,ˈvaksɪn/
Learn to pronounce
noun
noun: vaccine; plural noun: vaccines
a substance used to stimulate the production of antibodies and provide immunity against one or several diseases, prepared from the causative agent of a disease, its products, or a synthetic substitute, treated to act as an antigen without inducing the disease.

It’s not a vaccine, please stop calling it that.

What sources? If its your mate down the pub then it does not count. Of course its effective, its the degree of effectiveness that has some concerned - but the data from most official sources suggests that the vaccination programme is doing a solid job. If we left it unchecked then the virus had the possibility to be as effective as many of the plagues detailed in history.

It's been officially reported in the LBH that even though some of the staff have had two vaccinations they have still tested positive

The main issue we have in this country is the continuing number of cases. Over 16,000 today.
We must keep a lid on this as it will drive the potential for further mutations, making the vaccines ever less effective.

The truthful answer is that we don't know the long term side effects, much in the same way we don't know the long term side effects of getting covid itself. But we do know that the short to medium term risks of getting covid are vastly, vastly, vastly higher than the vaccine. 2 million people are suffering from long covid in this country, on top of the 130k+ who have died. The number of people who have died from adverse reactions to the vaccines are tiny.

Vaccine resistant strains of covid don't suddenly make the vaccines useless or mean we're back at square one. They'll still give you a much stronger immune response and greatly reduce your chances of serious illness/death. That is being borne out by the numbers right now. Deaths as a proportion of cases have plummeted and despite cases having risen steadily for 6 weeks now, the increase in people dying has barely risen, and even then, consists mainly of people who have not been vaccinated.
