Re: Bonne to Charlton
Just sinking it what a big miss Bonne will be. His goals may have dried up but he was the focal point of our team for two years, hopefully Wilkinson can replace that but I don't think he's the same type of player. Need someone who will work as tirellesly and run for every ball like Bonne did.
200k is a joke as well but not much the club could have done about it. If Koroma goes Ill begin to worry and we can only expect a lower mid-table finish if that happens.
Great player for the club though, will never forget that last minute penalty against Sutton and the equaliser against Eastleigh (what a goal btw). Hope he continues to do well.

You do realise that we don't necessarily need to replace him with a player with the same skillset, right?

Re: Bonne to Charlton
Well given our current style of play and the players we have, I think it is best to go with what has been successful, and what is likely to do well in League Two.
I'd rather we had two strikers like Koroma but it's just not realistic, is it?

It wouldn’t work, I agree with you, you need balance not two people doing the same thing, making the same runs etc.RicketyCricket wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 9:54 pm Well given our current style of play and the players we have, I think it is best to go with what has been successful, and what is likely to do well in League Two.

Nowhere near enough goals in one Koroma, let alone two.RicketyCricket wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 9:54 pm Well given our current style of play and the players we have, I think it is best to go with what has been successful, and what is likely to do well in League Two.

Re: Bonne to Charlton
That last 20 minutes at Sutton where he ran himself into the ground as we were a man down, won the pen and then converted it says everything about the lad.RicketyCricket wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 9:36 pm Just sinking it what a big miss Bonne will be. Re: Bonne to Charlton
If you want to play the same way you do. That said I think we're going to be a lot more direct this year.Smendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 9:49 pm You do realise that we don't necessarily need to replace him with a player with the same skillset, right?
The concern is whether we get enough players in - we basically made it through with Bonne + Koroma alone for the majority of the season. Alabi and Simpson didn't make much impact and Harrold is purely a super sub / route one option for short periods of time. We need 3, perhaps 4 strikers coming in (Koroma dependent) to compete at this level and I'm not sure we'll get them.

Re: Bonne to Charlton
Not necessarily depending on how we decide to employ Maguire-Drew. Can see one more forward coming in at most (unless Koroma leaves) before the season starts and then another mid season when we bin Harrold off. Though we also need to bin Alabi too.gshaw wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 10:11 pmIf you want to play the same way you do. Not too sure that with josh wright coming in we will be more direct unless the plan is to bypass the midfield. Everybody seems to think Wright only plays sidewaysgshaw wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 10:11 pmIf you want to play the same way you do. Re: Bonne to Charlton
If that's all we bring in then stick large bets on relegation as that's what we'll get with basically no options upfront. We near enough burnt out two incredibly fit strikers last season by overplaying Bonne and Koroma let alone doing it with one.Smendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 10:30 pmNot necessarily depending on how we decide to employ Maguire-Drew. Re: Bonne to Charlton
Players have to be in place and prepared well before that point. The club having started to move things on after observing a dignified period of mourning JE will really need to step up the pace now, especially with (what looks like) two massive player departures to deplete a squad that's already very thin when you take into account those released need replacing too.
Remember with larger squads in EFL depth becomes massively important. Won't get away with playing the same 11 week in week out when the opposition can not only fill a bench of 7 but probably have more in reserve too.

Re: Bonne to Charlton
On Ling’s interview it was mentioned that we have a list of players who we will look at, as and when we need to. I have faith in those that are in charge, seems like others don't share that faith.

Re: Bonne to Charlton
We need to ship out the excess squad members who Justin wanted to let go somas to free up some funds, plus the squad whilst it needs extra bodies you don’t want too many in the squad as it can bread disharmony especially with players knowing there not wanted any longer.

Cannot wait until 5pm on the 2 Aug or Doomsday as it will become known. It will be mental on here as season tickets are binned and protests organised.

Re: Bonne to Charlton
Bonne had numerous critics last season on here, and admittedly the goals dried up a bit. Though they went noticeably quieter after his pen at Sutton.
What you got from him was 100%,every minute of every game: and he rarely missed a game.
You could say his goals kept us up in 17/18, and played a huge role in getting us up in 18/19.
When we absolutely needed a free transfer to come in and do the business, following an horrendous time for the club, he did it. Ling deserves credit here too, I feel, but Bonne will always be a bit of a ledge in my eyes for the above reasons.
Good luck to the bloke; let's hope his replacement has the same application and attitude, which can take you a long way in the English game

Re: Bonne to Charlton
Never understood how he was critiqued on here so much. I’d have loved him to have stayed as he would or could have fired us to promotion, still I also understand why he’s moving on.

Bonnes goals may have dried up, he may well have been a bit less polished towards the end of the season, but his effort and application were incredible. I can’t think of another player we’ve had who was so switched on.

Yup absolutely, his fitness, work rate and commitment to the cause were immense. Gave everything for us and deserves his break.CreamofSumYungGai wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2019 9:52 pmThis this this.Scuba Diver wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2019 9:34 pm Bonne had numerous critics last season on here, and admittedly the goals dried up a bit.
