He could live in Chesterfield or Lincoln instead.

I agree . I'm confident we can replace Johnson with somebody at least as good as him, if not better.

Re: DJ reportedly going to Mansfield
DJ is capable of netting at least 25 goals next season, we've made a massive mistake in letting him go.
So much for the new investors and their big talk ..... why couldnt we better Mansfields offer ?

Re: DJ reportedly going to Mansfield
Johnson hit a purple patch last season and although he'll score a few for Mansfield next season my prediction is he'll struggle to get into double figures . There are strikers being released from higher up the leagues so I'm confident KJ can find somebody else who's better.

Re: DJ reportedly going to Mansfield
Best finisher at the club since Griff, shame we didn't have the quality around him to do him justice. He'll be a big loss in my opinion. But all this rubbish about the club making a mistake and letting him go is nonsensical, he chose to leave. I'd assume not for money if he's going to mansfield, most likely location closer to home and cost of living, but whatever the reason, what more could the club have done?

Re: DJ reportedly going to Mansfield
Would have been happy for him to stay, is an excellent finisher, and was feeding off scraps in our 433/451
That said, in the 2nd half of the season, looked like he was sulking half the time, so maybe that has been instrumental in the club not making him the best of offers, financially.
Mansfield is a lot closer to the NE than London, so I guess it's a combination of things..
It's really all about what we do next. Historically, 20 goal a season strikers come along very rarely for LOFC..

Nigel Clough’s comment sums up what was so wrong about last season for me: "We were impressed with the variety of goals he scored last season, with not too many situations and chances created for him”.
Based on his record, the loss of DJ and potentially others who have been offered contracts (any of which I would be sorry to see go), I’ll back KJ to get in the players he wants.

The variety of goals? 97% of his goals were from chasing long balls down the channels and catching out defenders and goalkeepers.EastDerehamO wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 8:20 am Nigel Clough’s comment sums up what was so wrong about last season for me: "We were impressed with the variety of goals he scored last season, with not too many situations and chances created for him”.

Re: DJ reportedly going to Mansfield
20 goal a season strikers are like gold dust. Everyone would have them if they were plentiful. Johnson will score 25 goals for Mansfield, because they will play him to his strengths , unlike the rookie managers he played under here.
We dont know all the reasons his left obviously, but I understand the club have been in contract talks since the turn of the year, yet he leaves it till second week of June to make his mind up.
I believe Vigs and Wilko will also go, meaning a lot of signings have to be made in a relatively short space of time, and have to be of a high quality.

Looks like everyone but those in charge knew we did not create much.EastDerehamO wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 8:20 am Nigel Clough’s comment sums up what was so wrong about last season for me: "We were impressed with the variety of goals he scored last season, with not too many situations and chances created for him”.

Re: DJ reportedly going to Mansfield
someone told me DJ wanted to stay but was told he wasnt guaranteed game time under Kenny Jackett, now this of course could be someone telling me an absolute steaming pile of camel sh*t, but IF true then this suggests to me Kenny has someone lined up that he thinks will be better, or (less likely) he think he can get Ruel doing a better job

Re: DJ reportedly going to Mansfield
For whatever reason, he didn't look that interested for the back half of last season (at least). If he's not now enthused by the new management regime enough to want to stay it's probably best that he's on his way.

Re: DJ reportedly going to Mansfield
Clough's brand of football is slightly more attractive and conducive to DJ than Jackett's hoofball

Good strikers are like gold dust and thats why they are so expensive and we let our best player go to a two bob northern team, we could have easily tempted him to stay.
No doubt we'll find a washed up 'Jamie Cureton' type striker from a Championship club and expect him to do the business
