There's no way Johnson can open us up on 21 June.
It's really worrying
18 deaths nationwide

Have you had your vaccine?
It's not just about deaths though is it? More and more is surfacing about Long Covid and it's potentially devastating long-term effects. We can't just make decisions about restrictions based solely on the number of deaths.

Irrelevant. Vaccination will hopefully stop you becoming critically ill but you could still suffer from Long Covid complications.

I really can't be bothered talking to anti vaxers - so I won't beyond this advice

If you and other anti-vaxxers are scared about the opening up because you haven't had a vaccine that's your problem not everyone else's

There's still time for you to do it and I'd encourage you very much to do so (link below)

There isnt enough vacines for everyone yet anti-vaxers will only be a problem once the whole population has a chances to get both does and then only if there is enough of them to prevent herd immunity.

And herd immunity comes in around 60% so that would need to be a lot of anti-vaxers

Its not going away eventually we will get used to it and covid jab will probably combined with the flu jab and we will talk about it like the flu. People are forgetting other things kill us, like the flu. Not to say we shouldnt take this seriously.

Vaccinations don't give complete immunity, so as we reduce precautions, cases will inevitably increase. However the vaccinations do reduce symptoms, hence significantly less deaths and I would suggest significantly less Long Covid. A year ago we couldn't get enough tests and PPE, this has greatly improved. Likewise I suggest that in time vaccine shortages will improve. As vaccinations have occurred we have made progress. We can argue whether we are ready for complete relaxation, I suggest probably not, but we cant lock ourselves away indefinitely. Variants occur to flu hence I get a different flu vaccination every year. I think this will become the case with Covid as we get on top of it. Obama predicted the possibility a pandemic a few years back. Now its actually happened, the human race is learning and we will become more pandemic prepared. Normal life will return, it may well happen again, hopefully with less impact.

The AZ is meant to be 60% effective against the Indian variant – I’ve got my second AZ jab today and am pleased to have it – but it does bring it home that we still need to be careful. My missus is on immune suppressants (for colitis) and was told at her second jab it will be less effective as a result (still worth having though) but they can’t put a figure on it.

With other variants popping up, Indian variant numbers surging, we’re far from home and dry even with the vaccines. And when I see people moaning about Portugal coming off the green list on the news, yes it’s unfortunate for those impacted especially in the travel industry, but it was always a possibility, and for many people who have holiday plans messed up, this is life & death, there are more important things than a holiday in the sun!

So how many "illegals" are really getting into the Country? Sounds like you're fully aware of the numbers.

Johnson opened up the country to Indians whilst you were locked indoors. I couldn’t see my family in the next street , but if I had family in India it was fine to see them and fine for them to visit family here. It was a criminal dereliction of duty.
Now it appears as though we will suffer again because of their reluctance to close that route down.
It’s laughable that they blame the Indian variant for downgrading Portugal to amber. How do they think that variant arrived in Portugal.

Id worry about the people arriving legally too. Closing the borders appears to be an impossibility.
