That, and his glaring lack of technical ability and positional sense.

Re: Craig Clay
Craig Clay has played 83 games for the O's since his transfer from Motherwell FC and in all those games he has scored just one goal.
Not a very good return on investment is it?

According to Wikipedia he's played 152 games for us and scored 5 goals.Chicken Dhansak wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 5:37 pm Craig Clay has played 83 games for the O's since his transfer from Motherwell FC and in all those games he has scored just one goal.

Re: Craig Clay
It appears to me that most successful teams have a midfield that weighs in with a decent number of goals. We haven't had that for a while, and CC seems unlikely to discover his shooting boots, but we can hope I guess.

His only real attribute is running around a lot. When played further forward, he does have some success pressuring players into mistakes and winning the ball back.
But that’s it.

Re: Craig Clay
The same Ji Sung Park that played a pivotal squad role in winning league titles and the European Cup. The same man that was one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s most underrated players. I think his opinion is a bit more worthy than yoursMax B Gold wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 7:03 pmWhich conclusively proves you do not have an eye for a player.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 6:49 pmI used to think the same about Ji Sung Park, but looking back, I underrated himRonnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 6:46 pm

Re: Craig Clay
Really surprised we've not only extended but on a long contract too. Can't fault the effort levels but he came off distinctly second best against the top half CMs.
Perhaps there's a role as a squad player providing cover and fresh legs off the bench but we need to improve on our current midfield to have any chance of reaching our ambitions.

Re: Craig Clay
If that is so, then those stats are a lot worse. As a midfielder, holding or otherwise, he should be scoring more than 5 in a 152 games.EastDerehamO wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 6:25 pmAccording to Wikipedia he's played 152 games for us and scored 5 goals.Chicken Dhansak wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 5:37 pm Craig Clay has played 83 games for the O's since his transfer from Motherwell FC and in all those games he has scored just one goal.

Re: Craig Clay
I like Craig Clay, and think some of the comments are really harsh.
His work rate is very good, and the only fault i can find is, his goalscoring isnt great for a midfielder.
Im glad he's been given another contract

How? That side would never score a goal!LittleMate wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 4:03 pmIf a side had 10 Craig Clays the football may not be pretty but that side would be in league one right now.Scuba Diver wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 3:53 pm I think Clay is okay.
Sure, he makes mistakes, but does a lot of the dirty stuff, and his attitude is unquestionable.
No idea if his terms have been reduced, but, I think he may do well under an experienced manager.

Re: Craig Clay
As l recall, Craig was Mr Creative the playmaker midfielder for Motherwell, he had a reputation of being a tad "mercurial" and was required to show he had the grafter side of his game, especially
when Jobi was the king of the middle. l reckon Clay still has the skills, he just hasn't had the chance to show it . Fingers crossed, he'll come good.

Re: Craig Clay
I’m surprised that he’s been given TWO years and wonder if KJ had any say in that.
I think his work rate is his strong point but really there isn’t too much else I’m afraid, but I hope I and others on here are proved wrong and KJ can improve him as a player.
Really feel we need better quality in CM though if we gonna chase a top 3 spot.
