I can remember about 20 years ago, when Stevenage who won the National League, not being allowed up, because their ground didnt meet the minimum standards for league 2. They took the EFL to court, and lost, and Torquay, who finished last in league 2, were spared relegation.

I cant see how Suttons ground can be up to those standards. Its a pretty awful ground IMO
I can still taste the smell of those toilets. And that’s from 2017, as I knew not to go back in them second time around. 🤢

I asked a Sutton fan about this a couple of years ago when they had a chance to go up via the playoffs. He said the plan was to keep the plastic pitch as it brought in a lot of revenue. And then lay a grass pitch nearby - not sure exactly where that would be?

Be very happy if they go up as Gander Green Lane is an easy away game for me.

Nah , I remember the last time I went there , pissed down all weekend and we lost 3-0 ( it could have been 6 or 7 ) ☹

Weird game that Torquay one..We were just so bad and all over the place and yes,how was it only 3-0..We played so much worse than when we got absolutely stuffed at Bromley..

I've just listened to the Sutton chairman regarding their 3G pitch . Said because they're up from today they should have enough time to get the 3G pitch up and a grass one put down for the start of the new season .

I live in Thornton Heath and Sutton is only 5 stops down the line, so that’s a nice easy away game for me. Yay.

Knowing how the EFL like to keep teams as local as possible over the festive season ,I suppose Colchester and Sutton could be our Christmas and New Year's Day fixtures .

Sutton’s ground would have had to be graded and suitable for the EFL , requisite number of seats, suitable floodlights, ability to segregate, toilets etc they would have had a visit last summer so they would have been aware of any work required. As crap as Gander Green Lane is it probably just about scrapes through, the big issue for them is the pitch which is major source income. Their chairman said around Christmas they would take a hit and lay down a grass pitch if it meant they went up.

Enfield's Southbury Road Ground was unsuitable for the Football League in the 1980s but Sutton's semi derelict stadium is up to League 2 standards now. How standards have fallen.
