Re: Jackett CONFIRMED by club
Not my first choice but its a very positive investment by the club in a manager of vast experience. I would be very surprised if he was hindered by Ling in his choice of staff and players in a way that has been suggested since we lost Justin. I would have thought that his pedigree will attract players.

Can’t see how Ling stays in his current role.LittleMate wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 12:52 pm Not my first choice but its a very positive investment by the club in a manager of vast experience. However this pans out - hopefully successfuly - what it does mean is the club can finally move on after the loss of Justin. The ties to that era are now cut.

Re: Jackett CONFIRMED by club
That's the another exciting element of Kenny Jackett's appointment . We might now be able to get those signings across the line that in the past we would have lost.LittleMate wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 12:52 pm Not my first choice but its a very positive investment by the club in a manager of vast experience. I understand it but JE didn’t have a one year rolling contract. He’s either the man for the job or he’s not.Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 12:46 pmThey’re understandably wary after past appointments have cost them. Why do the club always put buzzwords in their statements?
‘Experienced manager’ was really f*cking unnecessary. We get it, you ‘listen to the fans’. Also, a one year rolling contract?!
Good manager and too good for this level. Hope this goes well. We’ll be attracting some good players. Bring on next season.

I agree . Since the tragic passing of Justin and then the pandemic we've had a tough time . The time is now right to start afresh . Please God we have a successful season ahead.Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 12:54 pmCan’t see how Ling stays in his current role.LittleMate wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 12:52 pm Not my first choice but its a very positive investment by the club in a manager of vast experience. Re: Jackett CONFIRMED by club
Would have been delighted with either Jackett or Tisdale, so when they seemingly ended up the final two it looked hopeful, but nothing like having it confirmed. Well pleased with that, as observed above it shows ambition. Welcome Kenny!

I don’t see the issue here.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 12:57 pmI understand it but JE didn’t have a one year rolling contract. If anything, I prefer this approach. If in 6 months time it isn’t working out, he goes and our exposure is limited to 1 years salary rather than 18/30 months. If it is working out, we don’t have to renegotiate in 12/18 months time to extend. If he wants to go, he’s going to go regardless.
I don’t see any downside.

Exactly, it’s a financial decision. I said the same with Ross’ contract.Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 1:03 pmI don’t see the issue here.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 12:57 pmI understand it but JE didn’t have a one year rolling contract. What does this team look like in 2 years? What’s the plan? How do you build a squad in a manager’s name if he could f*** off after a year?

He can f*** off after a few months regardless.
Do you think if someone comes in for him, he’ll let us know and give us the full 12 months notice?

No, but the club gets a fair chunk of compensation. It’s the same with the young players.Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 1:09 pm He can f*** off after a few months regardless.

Re: Jackett CONFIRMED by club
According to the LMA, in the 4 seasons from 2014 - 2018, there were some 200 managers sacked, and about 60 resigned - so I guess the odds on any appointment are that it'll be the Club's decision to part ways rather than the incumbent.
I think the rolling contract is probably better for the Club than for KJ - but for all we know this was balanced elsewhere in the package.
I don't think it can be seen as a negative, really, especially without knowing other details of the contract (which we won't see)
And I've very very pleased with this appointment.

I’m not going to change my opinion on how I think the club should structure contracts because we have a good manager.

Re: Jackett CONFIRMED by club
Now is the time for all fans to support Ling and his position . Getting a manager like Jackett to the table to even discuss being manager was a challenge . Fans 2 weeks ago could only dream of Jackett being manager . That dream is now reality.Well done Martin Ling and the board

Me neither, but I suspect that theres a load of crappy work that goes with his job that neither Jackett nor Macklin wants or are qualified to do.Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 12:54 pmCan’t see how Ling stays in his current role.LittleMate wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 12:52 pm Not my first choice but its a very positive investment by the club in a manager of vast experience. Re: Jackett CONFIRMED by club
Just asked my mate (whos a Portsmouth fan) what KJ is like.
“ I didn’t watch 1 game live in the last 2 years when he was the manager I think that says it all haha”
“ He might be alright at a lower league club but he just doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing”

Re: Jackett CONFIRMED by club
Legit surprised we got someone with the track record and reputation of Jackett. Couldn't have made a better appointment really.
