Matt Porter on the managerial appointment
Supposedly ‘Calibre of person we have spoken to is phenomenal’
Don’t hold much confidence if that’s based on Ross and Jobi, but hope that there is some very good managers involved.

"Leyton Orient reportedly down to final three candidates. Kenny Jackett, Colin Calderwood and Paul Tisdale are allegedly the final after undergoing the interview process".

Re: Matt Porter on the managerial appointment
I get the impression that Martin Ling has been side lined in the decision making process and from now on Mat Porter is back on duty, odds on Calderwood may lengthen now, possible Kenny Jacket's will shorten

Re: Matt Porter on the managerial appointment
Jackett or Tisdale would do very nicely, not so keen on Calderwood as not much recent success, but if it is to be one of those three at least we'd get a manager with experience and some success on their CV, which is what many of us have been crying out for, as it gives a greater chance (not a guarantee) of success - Embleton/ Fletcher/ Jobi, none of them ticked that box.

Re: Matt Porter on the managerial appointment
Okay so rank those 3 in order of preference:
1. Tisdale - Very proven at this level with Exeter
2. Jackett - More experience than Tisdale, but more L1 and Champ level, might not be able to get us out of this league.
3. Calderwood - backup to the two above

Give over.
No disrespect to Porter but he’s just a fan like the rest of us. He has as much football knowledge as us, or Travis or Teague.
This will be Lingys call, and rightfully so.

Re: Matt Porter on the managerial appointment
Got to say that I'd be happy with either one or two, and not keen on Calderwood.
We've already been through this thing with Sam Ling for 2.5 years about him only being signed and in the team because of his dad. We'd get similar sniping and resentment among the fans group if Calderwood took over. Besides, I don't think he offers as much as either of the other two anyway.

Very true. If its Calderwood and we hit a bump in the road Ling will get a right slagging off for hiring his mate.Smendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 9:56 amGot to say that I'd be happy with either one or two, and not keen on Calderwood.

Re: Matt Porter on the managerial appointment
First Interview Stage = Ling, Porter and Macklin. Second Interviews T&T and other board members final decision basically T&T.
Theres a lot of disingenuous stuff written on this board about Matt Porter, dont get it myself experienced as a CEO at the club and was on the League 2 management committee before he left when Beelzebub came in - far from being "just a fan"

Re: Matt Porter on the managerial appointment
Possible: I'm starting to think ML is either leaving, or having a role-change, and possibly job-title change.
No doubt Calderwood is well regarded as a Coach, but less so as a manager..
The other two you would place firmly in the Manager category I would think. I'm not sure what someone like Jackett (say), would actually need ML for...so I think there may be more changes afoot.

But as businessmen, Travis and Teague will be well versed in making senior appointments for positions that they personally have little expertise in. The CV and references will contain all they need to know about the credentials of the interviewee. They will be assessing the character, managerial qualities, personality, leadership qualities. After Fletcher, Travis admitted he should have got more involved.
So it is quite possible that Ling’s role in this appointment may be reduced. In fact, I suspect most of the negotiations are taking place directly with the Board.

Really? Davis,Fletcher,Embleton (twice) and Jobi wasn’t Ling instrumental in appointing those ? I wouldn’t trust Ling to appoint the tea lady/person. Let Ling sort the contracts and the academy out.Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 8:47 amGive over.

Ling is one part of the interview process. The management team and board ultimately sign the appointment off so are equally accountable.

How can you have a manager reporting in to a Director of Football, and have the appointment made by a couple of blokes from America and one who spends his days making Bazza cups of tea?

Think back to your Business Days when you were IT Director. When you appointed an IT manager, did the Board interview and make that decision for you? Or was it your responsibility to recruit and appoint the lucky person reporting directly into you?Dohnut wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 11:08 amLing will no doubt have a major say,Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 8:47 amGive over.

Re: Matt Porter on the managerial appointment
Look at it from a different perspective. When I was an IT professional, the people interviewing me for senior roles knew naff all about computers, bar doing spreadsheets. But they knew about business, people, personalities, could read a CV and were capable of getting references by way of independent verification.Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Tue May 18, 2021 12:26 pmThink back to your Business Days when you were IT Director. I was never in 30 years in a senior role, interviewed by an IT expert. They were hiring me because that’s what they wanted, not what they had. Some may find it strange, but it is in fact routine for senior appointments.
Junior posts may well be interviewed by their boss-to-be. They not having the opportunity to create a long working history.
It’s the way it works. That you don’t understand is down to you.
