It’s quite amusing that increase of cars is seen as a problem whilst the accelerated increase in the building of properties is seen as a good thing despite the inevitable impact to transport infrastructures along with the added impact to education and health services to name but 2.

Are you saying Road Tax covers all the costs of driving? Evidence please.Ornchurch wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 11:33 amDrivers have always paid road tax. All other charges are a milking of a convenient cash cow.Max B Gold wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 10:28 amDriving creates pollution.Ornchurch wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 10:19 am Off course people value driving. It is the most convenient, quickest and safest way of getting from A to B. It gives people freedom.
Everything that is targeted at driving is seen as the milking of a cash cow.
Who, especially women, feels 100% safe when travelling on public transport and it is a scenario that gets increasingly worse as you move further in to the evening hours.
There is a human and financial cost to that pollution. Why shouldn't drivers pay to deal with it's consequences?

Plenty of single family houses that often have 1 car per adult.Ornchurch wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 11:41 amYou’re right on that but that comes as a result of an increased population.Prestige Worldwide wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 10:56 am Cars have taken over the majority of streets, children can no longer play out when i expect majority of those driving enjoyed doing so when they were younger.
For example the streets I grew up on had houses that contained 1 family and as a result more often than not 1 car per household.
These have since been sub divided in to flats thus doubling, or in some cases trebling the number of homes and cars accordingly.
New housing is also regularly being built on green spaces that is removing areas where kids could previously play.

Mind you I don’t know what road tax covers. It appears not to go on the maintenance of the roads. More pot holes than tarmac on a lot of the side roads near me

So you've no idea if road tax is financially or otherwise enough to counterbalance the negative effects of driving?

Okay, this isn't anything to do with the Mayor election, but this election campaign video for a Tory Councillor candidate for somewhere up North is my favourite so far:

If your gonna vote tomorrow you have to take your own pencil according to a guy on the TV this afternoon , you can't use a pen and your vote will be voided if you do .
What I don't get is why you have to use a pencil , surely it's easier for someone to alter your vote ( if they are that way inclined )

The Poll Card issued by the Returning Officer for Barking and Dagenham states:
Expect voting to be different. You must wear a face covering, expect to queue and please bring your own pen or pencil, if possible.

Re: London Mayor Election
Making us use pencil is an easy way the fascist Tories can rig the election and change votes like they did against JC.

Re: London Mayor Election
Quite a few journalists and political commentators hinting that, while Khan still expected to win, Bailey may be out performing earlier predictions. No idea if this is true. And, even if it is, how much it may be down to Labour failing to GOTV as opposed to Bailey appealing across voters.
Come to think of it, I don't think I can recall anything of Khan's election campaign.
