So Where Does Bonne Rank?

Post by Rich Tea Wellin »

Firstly, thank you Macauley! With him we would have really been in trouble with relegation a serious threat 2 seasons ago. He was young and untested and stood up, worked hard and kept us just about in it until Justin came in. And then last season, we wouldn't have made it without his goals. Balls of steel for the winner at Sutton which will certainly go down as a big moment in Orient history.

Now, baring mind the level, i'd be interested to know where people rank Bonne in terms of Orient strikers. For me he has got to be up there with Griff, Lisbie and McGleish. Not just for his goals. Usually, especially in the lower leagues, a player is either a goalscorer or a target man/lump. Bonne was good at it all. He'd run the channels, he'd win headers, he'd hold the ball up and bring others in and he would score goals. Not only that but in the NL he would get battered every game, run until the final whistle and over 2 seasons he didn't miss a single game through injury, which is actually pretty remarkable.

Up there but is no Super Kev. Probably the worst of those 4 in terms of finishing but tried every bit as hard as Scottie.

Agreed with all of that.

But 2 divisions below Lisbie and McGleish means you can't compare him to them. At least not just yet.

Alexander above Bonne? Interesting. McGleish above Super Kev. Alexander scores the same number of goals in double the amount of games.....

No Simpson in that, considering he was our first player to score 20 league goals in about 35 years?

But at a higher level. In my opinion he’s the worst of all those, if he’d had scored in the league this upcoming season then of course he would have moved up the list. All those players played and scored at a higher level.

I'm biased..those two are my favourite Orient players since Achampong and Carter. It's all a much or a muchness because of the different levels they all played at, you can add in Simpson and Mooney to those 6 and make a case for any of them in the top 5 in any order.

For me, Lisbie is number one by quite a bit. He had just that little bit more genuine quality about him than the others.
