Team that could have got us to the playoffs

Post by Four four two »

No way am i an expert but i do reckon that if we had focussed on this team from the start we may have had a chance of the playoffs :

GK Vigaroux

RB Turley
CH Akinola
CH Happe followed by Thompson
LB Widdowsson

CM Hector
CM Jobi

RW JMD followed by Kemp in number 10 roll.
CF Johnson
CF Wilkinson
LW Brophy

Instead . we have fiddled around putting players out of positions and playing tippy tappy football going nowhere. Obviously . certain positions need upgrading but that would have given us 72 plus points in my opinion in this very poor league.

No, it's when the players didn't believe in Embleton anymore is when a straight shot at the playoffs disappeared.

4-4-2 playing Crawley were 11th when they signed Maguire-Drew and are now 14th. He hadn't pulled up any trees for us before he went to them and when he has started for them recently he's consistently being subbed off mid way through the second half.

So what makes you think he'd have magically been this great player for us? Because there's no evidence he'd be making the difference you're expecting.

Difficult to argue with that.

Yes we lack depth and yes we could improve some players but as a starting 11, yes that’s easily good enough to finish in the top third of the table.

There is no combination of the players we have, that would have got us into the play-offs.
We have some very decent players here ( Viggers, Happe, Turley, Brophs, Johnson), but too many duffs.
We need to keep the good uns, and add a new right back, 2 or 3 new central midfielders, to play with Kyp, and another striker to play up front with DJ, in a 4-4-2, or even a 3-5-2

There's going to be so many "what ifs" at the end of this season and we all know what the biggest one will be

You missed out Mark Lazarus from the first eleven ?
Also add Laurie Cunningham and Glenn Roeder to the squad, plus Jimmy Bloomfield as the Manager !

I think there was an element of tiredness about us against Walsall. I only hope our players feel OK for Saturday against Cheltenham . That's going to be a very tough game to get anything from . I would take a draw right now

All you had to do was appoint a proper management team and we’d be more or less promoted by now.
